Hi @WildMan71
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I understand you're unable to get sound working on your HP ENVY x360 15m-dr1012dx, and I appreciate the troubleshooting you've already completed, including downloading and reinstalling software.
Since Windows is directing you back to HP support, let's focus on recommended audio recovery steps that often help when drivers appear installed but audio is still unavailable.
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics for Audio
- Turn off the notebook.
- Turn it on and repeatedly tap the Esc key.
- Press F2 for HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Select Component Tests > Audio and run the test.
- Note any failure ID if one is displayed.
Reset the Audio Driver Completely
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.
- Right-click the Realtek Audio device and select Uninstall device.
- Check "Attempt to remove the driver for this device" if available.
- Restart the notebook.
- Install the latest audio driver for your model from HP and restart again.
Check the Playback Device
- Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar.
- Open Sound Settings.
- Confirm that Speakers/Realtek Audio is selected as the output device and is not muted.
Install HP Support Assistant Updates
- Open HP Support Assistant.
- Check for driver, BIOS, and firmware updates specifically offered for your notebook.
- Install all recommended updates and restart.
Perform a Windows Audio Troubleshooter
- Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other Troubleshooters.
- Run the Audio troubleshooter and apply any recommended fixes.
Test with Headphones
- Connect a wired headset or headphones.
- Check whether audio is available through the external device.
- This helps determine whether the issue is related to the speakers or the audio service/driver.
References:
If the audio test in HP Hardware Diagnostics provides a Failure ID, please share the exact code. That will help us identify the next troubleshooting path.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
