@KASSANDRA04, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Sound Issues on an HP Laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you are experiencing issues with sound on your HP laptop and have already tried restarting it, follow these steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Step 1: Check Audio Settings

  1. Volume Controls: Ensure that the laptop's volume is not muted and is set to an audible level. Adjust the volume using the speaker icon in the system tray.
  2. Playback Device: Right-click the speaker icon in the system tray and select "Playback devices". Ensure the correct playback device is selected and set as the default.

Step 2: Update Audio Driver

  1. Device Manager: Open the Device Manager by right-clicking the Start button and selecting "Device Manager".
  2. Sound, video, and game controllers: Expand this section, right-click your audio device, and select "Update driver".
  3. Search automatically: Choose the option to search automatically for updated driver software.

Step 3: Check Windows Audio Services

  1. Services: Type services.msc into the Start menu and press Enter to open the Services window.
  2. Windows Audio: Scroll down and find "Windows Audio". Ensure that the status is "Running". If not, right-click it and select "Start".

Step 4: Perform System Restore

If the audio issue started recently, performing a system restore might help.

  1. System Restore: Type system restore into the Start menu and select "Create a restore point".
  2. Restore: Follow the prompts to restore the system to a point before the audio issue started.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
