My system can detect my Microphone device, but it does know the brand name of it. So I am not able to download the relevant driver for my input audio device. Please tell how and where I can get the the driver from any HP websites if my laptop is HP ENVY 15 x360 Convertible.

Hi @mkfchow1
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
To resolve issues with the microphone driver on your HP ENVY 15 x360 Convertible, you can follow these steps to find and update the relevant drivers:
Use HP Support Assistant:
- Open the HP Support Assistant software on your system.
- This tool automatically checks for driver updates specific to your laptop model. If you don't have it installed, you can download it from the HP Support Assistant page.
Device Manager Update:
- Search for "Device Manager" in the Windows search bar and open it.
- Find your audio input device under "Sound, video and game controllers" or "Audio inputs and outputs."
- Right-click on the microphone device and select "Update driver."
- Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software" to let Windows find the necessary driver.
Visit HP's Official Website:
- Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page.
- Enter your laptop model (HP ENVY 15 x360 Convertible) in the search field.
- Select your operating system, then find the audio driver in the list of available driver downloads.
- Download and install the latest audio driver listed.
Realtek or Alternative Audio Driver:
- If the internal audio hardware is based on Realtek, you may require the Realtek HD Audio drivers. Sometimes, these are listed separately or might need manual installation via the manufacturer's website.
Windows Update:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates. Windows may find generic drivers compatible with your device.
Following these steps should help you resolve driver issues for your microphone on the HP ENVY 15 x360 Convertible.

Dear Hawks_Eye,
thank you for your instructions and recommendations for solving my problem to look for suitable driver to my Microphone in Hp Envy 15 x360 Convertible.
The problem does not resolve, here below are the results:
1. Open the HP Support Assistance:
Already done, checked sound test the speaker is no problem and the analysis shows the system okay. The troubleshooting shows the Microphone’s problem which cannot be fixed.
2. Device Manager Update:
The Audio System shows output speaker is Realtek Audio but the input is Intel Smart Technology for Digital Microphone. I tried to automatically search and update the driver for input device but the system responded already installed the most suitable driver.
In sound audio and game controller, the situation is completely same as above. If I deleted the device, restart the system, then it will obtain an unknown device in system under Device Manager. No action is taken even I updated this device. However, if I choose the driver manually, there are two choices, one is asset certificate while another is Microsoft Audio. No matter which one I chose, the input device is still non-functional.
3. Hp’s Official Website:
Find my laptop’s model, choose Windows system 11 and version 22H2 (The latest choice while my system is not running 24H2). The outcome under sound’s category is found only Realtek Audio version in 2022 but not any Intel’s drivers. I have attempted to install the Realtek Audio Driver again. However, the problem still remains.
4. Realtek or Alternative Driver:
Attempt to look for the Realtek Audio driver in Realtek Official Website (Realtek.com) and Intel Smart Sound Technology for digital Microphone in Intel official website (Intel.com) separately but in vain. I cannot find them in their websites.
so I still do not know which hardware my audio device is. The output speaker using Realtek driver obviously no problem but input microphone is not working with this driver. Instead, the system accepts to allow me to install driver of Intel Smart Sound Technology for digital Microphone.
Above are those results I got after following your instructions, please give another solution.

4. Windows Update:
No new sound driver is giving. If I installed one of the Preview Update (can’t remember its number), the whole system will collapse and it change to Blue Screen after restart. In case, I use the third party’s driver software, it will automatically install Intel Smart Sound Technology for digital Microphone. The system accepted but not working.

Thanks for the thorough breakdown, @mkfchow1 . Based on your HP Envy 15 x360 Convertible and the persistent microphone issue, here's what we've uncovered and what you can try next:
Root Cause Summary
Your system is detecting the Intel Smart Sound Technology (ISST) for Digital Microphone, but the driver either:
- Isn’t functioning properly
- Is mismatched with your Windows version (especially 22H2 vs 24H2)
- Or is being overridden by generic Microsoft drivers
This is a known issue across HP Envy x360 models, especially after Windows updates. Several users have reported that the internal mic stops working, and the Intel SST OED device shows a yellow triangle or fails silently.
Recommended Fixes
1. Completely Remove ISST Drivers
- Open Device Manager
- Under Sound, video and game controllers, uninstall:
- Intel Smart Sound Technology for Digital Microphones
- Intel Smart Sound Technology Audio Controller
- Under System Devices, uninstall:
- Intel SST OED or similar entries
🔄 Restart your system after uninstalling.
2. Install OEM HP Audio Drivers Manually
- Go to the HP Envy x360 driver page
- Download and install the Realtek Audio Driver (even if it’s dated 2022—it often includes ISST components)
- Reboot and test mic input via:
- Settings > System > Sound > Input > Test Microphone
3. Avoid Windows Preview Updates
- Since a preview update caused a blue screen, stick to stable updates only.
- You can pause updates temporarily via Settings > Windows Update > Pause for 7 days.
Optional: External Mic Test
If the internal mic still fails, try plugging in a headset with a mic. If that works, it confirms the issue is isolated to the internal mic hardware or driver.
Let me know your exact HP Envy 15 x360 model number (e.g., 15-ee0716nz or 15t-000) and I’ll dig up the most compatible audio driver for your build.
If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution! ✅ It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi Hawks_Eye,
Thank you for your recommendations. However, the problem still remains with process responses in (BOLD) as follows:-
Recommended Fixes
1. Completely Remove ISST Drivers
- Open Device Manager
- Under Sound, video and game controllers, uninstall:
- Intel Smart Sound Technology for Digital Microphones (Done)
- Intel Smart Sound Technology Audio Controller (Can't find this item)
- Under System Devices, uninstall:
- Intel SST OED or similar entries (Uninstalled Itel SST OED, but what is similar entries?)
Restart your system after uninstalling. (Done)
2. Install OEM HP Audio Drivers Manually
- Go to the HP Envy x360 driver page
- Download and install the Realtek Audio Driver (even if it’s dated 2022—it often includes ISST components) (Done)
- Reboot and test mic input via:
- Settings > System > Sound > Input > Test Microphone (No input device found, therefore no sound test available)
3. Avoid Windows Preview Updates (Noted)
- Since a preview update caused a blue screen, stick to stable updates only.
- (Can I update Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based System (KB5062660) & 2025-8 .NET 8.0.19 Update for x64 Client (KB5064838) to my laptop HP Envy x360 Convertible 15-ed1000(169W7AV) now?)
- You can pause updates temporarily via Settings > Windows Update > Pause for 7 days. (Done)
Optional: External Mic Test (Tried plugging a Bluetooth headset, function normal under driver of Intel SST for digital Microphone, but not after uninstallation of drivers you recommended.)
(Model number is HP Envy x360 Convertible 15-ed1000(169W7AV, please dig up the most compatible audio driver for my build accordingly)
