I purchased the display port to HDMI so I could connect my laptop to a Samsung HD TV.  The laptop to TV display is working fine. However there is no sound. I have reviewed all the sound settings and did a search for new devices. The HDMI cable doesn't appear as an option. Any advice will be appreciated!

Some older DP ports do not carry sound. I believe your machine is 8 or 9 years old now but your machine has ++ symbol on its Display Port therefore it must carry sound. Please try

  (a) Right click speaker icon,

  (b) Select Playback devices,

  (c) Right click HDMI sound and enable.

Hope this helps.

Regards.

Thank you very much for your solution.  I used the right click, checked "show disabled devices" and "show disconnected devices".  The HDMI playback option appeared and I could then click the new device.  The sound is now working on the TV.

Thanks again!
