After a short time (about 30 seconds to a few minutes), my speakers start producing distorted sound. At first, they work normally. I’ve updated all the drivers and even reset my PC, but the problem is still there. Since the speakers work fine at the beginning and my headset has no issues, I think it might be a software problem.

Hi @Christian5555

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for explaining the issue so clearly—distorted speaker output after a short delay, especially when headsets work fine, strongly suggests a software-level conflict rather than hardware failure.

You've already taken commendable steps with driver updates and a system reset.

Let's build on that with a focused recovery path.

Step-by-Step: Resolve Speaker Distortion on HP Windows 11 PC

1. Disable Audio Enhancements

Windows 11 often applies sound effects that can conflict with HP’s audio stack.

  • Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar → Sound settings
  • Under Output, select your speaker device
  • Scroll to Advanced → Click More sound settings
  • In the new window, go to the Enhancements tab
  • Check Disable all enhancements
  • Apply and restart your PC

This step alone has resolved distortion issues for many HP users.

2. Reinstall Audio Drivers Cleanly

Even updated drivers can retain corrupted settings.

  • Open Device Manager (Win + X)
  • Expand Sound, video and game controllers
  • Right-click your audio device (e.g., Realtek, Conexant) → Uninstall device
  • Check “Delete the driver software for this device” if available
  • Restart your PC to allow Windows to reinstall the default driver

3. Install HP-Specific Audio Driver

Generic Windows drivers may not fully support HP’s audio hardware.

  • Visit HP Software & Driver Downloads
  • Enter your exact product name or serial number
  • Download and install the latest audio driver listed for Windows 11

4. Check for Conflicting Audio Devices

  • In Device Manager, look for any NVIDIA High Definition Audio or Intel Smart Sound Technology
  • Disable these temporarily to test if distortion stops

5. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

To rule out speaker hardware faults:

  • Restart your PC and press Esc or F2 repeatedly to enter diagnostics
  • Run the Audio Test under Component Tests
  • Note any error codes or anomalies

I know how disruptive this can be, especially when everything else seems to work fine.
