Hi everyone,

I’ve been experiencing an annoying cracking/static sound from my laptop speakers, especially when playing audio or videos. It happens even at low volumes and is quite distracting.

Has anyone else faced this issue? Any known fixes—like driver updates, settings adjustments, or hardware checks? I

Appreciate any suggestions! Thanks in advance.

Hi @Sumant_1612,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for reaching out regarding the crackling/static noise you're experiencing from your laptop speakers during audio or video playback. This type of distortion can indeed be disruptive, and we are committed to helping you resolve it.

1. Switch to the Generic Windows Audio Driver

This is one of the most effective solutions:

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
  • Right-click on Realtek (R) Audio or similar.
  • Choose Update driver → Browse my computer → Let me pick from a list.
  • Select High Definition Audio Device (not Realtek).
  • Install and restart your laptop.

This often resolves the crackling caused by Realtek driver issues

2. Disable Audio Enhancements

  • Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar → Sounds.
  • Go to the Playback tab → Select your speaker → Properties.
  • Under the Enhancements tab, check Disable all enhancements.
  • Apply and restart.

3. Adjust Power Settings

  • Go to Control Panel → Power Options.
  • Set your plan to High Performance.
  • Click Change plan settings → Change advanced power settings.
  • Under Processor power management, set Minimum processor state to 100%.

This prevents power-saving features from interfering with audio.

4. Run the Windows Audio Troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters.
  • Run the Playing Audio troubleshooter.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
