Hi socalfd, Thanks for your note to re-check the BIOS. Back in Dec, I did update the BIOS  on my Spectre 360 15-BL012DX to MegaTrends version F.30 ... no better. I also updated the RealTek driver; nothing.  After reading your note, I see the BIOS is now up to F.34. It actually helped... a bit.  The first video I experienced the crackling on was on this beautiful acapella:

This one's actually no better with the new BIOS. I hear the crackle on the lowest frequencies when the ladies sing a "4" chord (for you musically inclined). Examples at seconds 6 and 17 among others.

However, this one noticeably improved, although the rumbling/crackle is still somewhat noticeable on low freq.. again acapella.

I did get my speakers replaced by HP after the first BIOS and driver update didn't work.... new speakers didn't help either. Works great thru headphones so I'm just gonna live with it.

BTW socalglfd, I don't think my problem is the same as yours because most everything sounds "OK" on mine... Windows alert sounds, etc, most videos, mp3s are ok. But I'm a musician and when it's not ok it drives me crazy.

I thought the 8th 15T that HP sent to me replacing my 7th gen (they sent me the 8th gen because the second time they replaced the speakers did'nt work) fixed the the probem but it did'nt, I still have crackeling issues here and there but I guess I have to live with it and just use my cheap $15 bluetooth speaker (which is better than the stock speakers).  I  did learn and should have done alot more research before  dropping over $1,000 on a laptop. I think I will sell this one and say goodbye to HP.
