Something has definitely gone wrong with Windows 10 today.
All of a sudden, my Windows 10 "apps" (calendar, etc) have stopped working and the bar that pops out of the entire right side of the screen (the one with notifications at the top and toggle buttons at the bottom for airplane mode, brightness, etc) has disappeared.
It looks like Windows must have updated without telling me as I'm certain I saw no warnings.
I understand why people buy Macs.

I've been removing driver files one-by-one for about 8 hours now.
I'm going to crack this and work out why it worked.
Incidentally, MS rolled out a "critical update" on Feb 9 and I believe that has caused the fix to break. It probably auto-updated some drivers.

You are a man on a mission. I admire your tenacity. 🙂
I just saw a news feed come across my phone yesterday. MS is supposedly going to start publishing what is included in the super-vague Windows 10 updates. So that's good new. Might be able to start isolating events a little easier with respect to trouble shooting these items.
By the way Dax - have you seen this post I started?

I'm not sure if it will raise awareness or not. But since this thread and the other one (the crackling thread) have been largely ignored, I was hoping it would help.
Maybe it will. Maybe it won't.
But in that new thread ("Help HP - Spectre x360"), I didn't reference this thread as I thought HP had recommended we condense into a single thread at one point. Perhaps I should have referenced this thread as well.

I'm almost totally out of ideas. Removing these files didn't solve the problem.
I'll try installing/swapping out some files with the v2.79 files and see if that makes a difference.

I really appreciate your efforts in finding the solution. However, there is one thing which is bothering me again and again that we paid money why do we get a faulty product why should we do the work for them we pay money what they asked for and they should give us what we want don't you think you should work like that.
I know you're going through file by file to nail it down and I really appreciate it but there could be 1 or 2 files still hiding somewhere in the folders maybe in the registry perhaps, causing the issue, and then how would we get to those ones. If you know what I'm trying to say.
I just hope HP do something about it as it's been too long now and ignored for ages.

Trust me, I don't want to be wasting my time on this either, but HP have proven themselves to be completely hopeless, with no regard for their customers whatsoever. I would never buy another HP product again in my life and I would urge anyone else to do the same.
The thing is, I lucked across a fix which suddeny stopped working. There MUST be a way to get back to that state.

Right now, the only fix is to open up DTS Audio Control Panel, go to Listening Experience, and then check and uncheck the Audio Enhancements box every time you plug and unplug your headphones or reboot the computer.

I tried to uncheck it and no luck.
