Hi @Phil6250,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're stoked to have you on board!

To help us get started on resolving your issue, could you please share the model name of your device?

Meanwhile, you can try these steps:

Check for Existing Audio Drivers

Press Windows + X → select Device Manager.

Expand sound, video, and game controllers.

If you see Realtek or any high-definition audio device, right-click → Uninstall device → check Delete the driver software for this device if prompted → Restart PC.

Use the Correct Driver Version

Make sure you downloaded the driver for your exact Windows version (Windows 11 64-bit, for example).

If unsure, visit your laptop manufacturer’s website instead of the generic Realtek site to download the OEM driver; this usually works better.

Install Driver in Compatibility Mode

Right-click the downloaded installer → Properties → Compatibility tab → check Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 10 (or Windows 11 if available) → Apply.

Then right-click → Run as Administrator.

Use Device Manager to Force Install

In Device Manager → Sound, video and game controllers → Action > Add legacy hardware → Next → select Install the hardware manually → Next → choose Sound, video and game controllers → Next → Have Disk → browse to the folder where the Realtek driver is downloaded → Next → Finish.

Run Windows Update

Sometimes Windows Update automatically detects missing audio drivers.

Go to Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates and install any optional updates under Optional updates > Driver updates.

Restart and Test

After installation, restart your laptop and check the sound.

You can also open Control Panel > Sound to see if speakers/headphones appear.

I hope this helps.
