Check to see if there is a hardware problem.

Tap the ESC key after powering on. Tap it once a second after you see the LEDs on the keyboard flash. When you see the startup menu, press F2 to run diagnostics.

If a component fails during the UEFI test then there is an actual hardware fault.
If the component is not tested then possibly it is in the updated version of UEFI diagnostics.

HP releases newer UEFI diagnostics periodically.
When you select F2 during boot you are requesting UEFI diagnostics.
There is an updated diagnostics package Click Here
Look for the phrase 'issues outside the OS',
Expand the '+' symbol and click the DOWNLOAD button.
The version of the UEFI diagnostics is shown at the left of that DOWNLOAD button.
When you press F2 to run diagnostics please ensure the version is the new one.

The can be installed from a USB flash drive if necessary.

If no failure then windows drivers are wrong and need to be replaced.

Please provide the Product ID or exact model name for better assistance. Preferably the full product ID including the characters after the # symbol.

Thanks BeemerBiker. The utility downloaded okay and did produce sound when run but still nothing when I load windows. Is there a Windows 11 driver out there that I can download. At present it shows a Cirrus Logic Awesome Speaker Amps and then my Motorola phone

I found the product name

HP Envy Laptop 17 cw0xxx

Product# 7H1T2UA#ABA

The HP utility that tested the physical system pre Windows running did produce a sound but no RealTek drivers where found in Windows Device Manager

There is a september 2024 driver for your system here

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/hp-envy-17.3-inch-laptop-pc-17-cw0000/model/2101549693?sku=7H1T...

select win11 x64 and then click "Open all"

Please let me know if it works.  if it does other people with Realtek  problems can use it

It downloaded okay and I can see it in the hp folder under the download folder but when I run it nothing changes. Windows keeps saying that the Cirrus Logic already installed is the best.  However I still get no sound. Should I be looking at other updates like the chipset drivers or something like that. Should I uninstall the Cirrus Logic driver and then install the RealTek? Thanks for your help!

This message does not appear if you download the sp154448.exe > click on it and follow the dialog. Even if not required, a subsequent restart can do no harm.

Installing the chipset drivers can also be helpful.

I am concerned about the Cirrus Logic audio driver as it is not listed in the software available.  I think you need to force the Realtek to be installed.

Bring up your win11 device manager page.  Does the device manager show any problems like a red "X" ?

That article is long and complex but basically you need to either delete the Cirrus Logic driver or force the Realtek to be used.  There is a discussion of the problem here, but it appears the OEM (D.ell) may have used Cirrus Logic instead of Realtek.  I do not know if that is the case with your system.

Your laptop is described here but there is no mention of Cirrus Logic, only Bang and Olson (speaker hardware)

As described in that Microsoft answer, try browsing to a different driver and select the Realtek instead of the cirrus logic.

If that does not work, then we need to find out if you really  have a cirrus logic chipset in your laptop.

Also, make sure your output device in windows goes to the speakers and not a device no longer connected to the laptop.

The Cirrus Amp Driver in version 21.51.46.157 is included in the package, as well as Realtek, Intel drivers and others. This is simply shoveled into the Driver Store and Windows collects what is needed there. Since the HP driver packages usually contain drivers for several computers, e.g. from the same series, the Driver Store also contains some items that are not needed.

@Lachs yes, that Cirrus driver is in that HP audio driver software.  I do not know if the  7H1T2UA#ABA laptop has Cirrus or Realtek hardware.

If there is no error in the device manager, one would think that Windows installed the correct driver.  it is also possible that both hardware devices are compatible but one would think that each device would have different VEN and DEV hardware IDs
