My audio is not working after upgrading to windows 11 with the driver update for my RealTek Driver # 6.0.9018.1. How do I resolve this issue so that updated drivers for audio will work on my device?

Hi @Jess7752,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it is when audio stops working after an update, especially on Windows 11 with Realtek drivers. This issue is common after major OS upgrades because the audio driver may not fully sync with the new Windows audio stack.

Here’s how you can fix it:

Step 1: Check Audio Output

  • Right-click the speaker iconSound Settings.
  • Ensure the correct output device (Realtek) is selected.

Step 2: Roll Back or Reinstall Driver

  1. Press Windows + X → Device Manager → Sound, video and game controllers.
  2. Right-click Realtek AudioProperties → Driver tab.
  3. If Roll Back Driver is available, click it.
  4. If not, uninstall the driver and restart your PC.
  5. Download the latest driver from HP: 👉 support.hp.com/us-en

Step 3: Use HP Recommended Driver

  • Sometimes the latest Realtek driver from Windows Update isn’t fully compatible.
  • Install the HP-certified audio driver for your notebook model from HP’s site.

Step 4: Run Windows Audio Troubleshooter

  • Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters → Playing Audio.
  • Follow the prompts.

Step 5: Update BIOS & Chipset

  • Outdated BIOS or chipset drivers can cause audio conflicts.
  • Download updates from HP’s official page for your notebook.

I have the same issue, the driver I have installed  is 6.0.9847.1, date Jun 6, 2025 the speaker icoon says "no audio device installed. When looking in device manager the Realtek Audio gives the status "device not working (code 10). The policy object does not exist, but it should exist". This is the latest driver after trying to update the driver.

Apparently HP support cannot begiven since I have Windows 11 installed?? Does anyone have a solution?

Regards Hans

I solved it by deleting the realtek (R) Audio in Device manager

Next from tab "Action" Search for changed devices.

It installs an earlier version , driver 6.0.9721.

Done

I deleted but it install the latest version automatically. I tried again with Manaul select the last version 6.0.9627.1, sound coming back.
