HP ENVY 15 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi this is an HP Envy E1P04AV (not a common model).

After the last MS Windows 10 64 Update I'm getting a dev mgr error for "High Definition Audio Device"

This device cannot start. (Code 10)
{Operation Failed}
The requested operation was unsuccessful.

I've reinstalled the current driver from the HP site (about 4 times now).  I've uninstalled. I've gotten the HDWR ID and looked for a better driver.

The IDT Hi Def Audio CODEC loads ok.

Any help?

Thanks in advance.

Hello @Natzure,

The problem HD audio device you are seeing is the Intel HDMI audio device that needs a driver.

You don't need that device unless you want/need audio through the display port.

Download, but don't run this graphics driver...

sp72370.exe

Download and install this free file utility.  64 bit is the second file listed.

http://www.7-zip.org/

After you install 7-zip, right click on the graphics driver file you downloaded, and select 7-zip from the list of items.

Have 7-Zip Extract to: and let it extract the driver to the folder name (sp72370).

Go to the device manager and click on the problem Intel HD audio device needing the driver.

Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder 7-Zip created.

Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and see if the driver installs that way.

Then reboot.

If you explore the driver folder 7-zip created, and open the DisplayAudio folder, you will find the setup information file that has the hardware ID you posted as supported by the driver.

Hi, thanks for your response.  I'll try what you're written...but...

Perhaps this is a separate issue...

There is no "Beats Audio" app or reference after this update.  Before I could find a program/panel for Beats Audio.  It's now gone.

This has happended before.  The audio from the laptop is about 10% volume at max now.

Thanks again,

Hi GBL84

your answer was spot on for the driver issue. Thanks!!!  The Intel Display Audio driver is now in place in the dev manager.

Any idea how to get the full Beats Audio functionality back?

I really appreciate your help

Cheers

Hello @Natzure,

Thank you for your reply !!!

Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63501-64000/sp63555.exe

When done, hold down the Windows key and press R
Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter.

In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall and restart.

When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook and let windows fully load.

Hi GBL84

Thanks for your input.  I've actually done that (and just again making sure I followed your instructions).  Beats audio control panel or any option that I can see is still missing.  This has happended before the latest windows update and I solved it by loading the files from IDT...but it's not working this time.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi ther, based on some other input from other sites I retried the idt driver install.  Same files but using your method of unzipping it first and then running setup as admin.  I did it 10 times and on the 10th, I now have a Beats control panel.  Who knows why it took so many attempts but thanks again for your kind advice

Cheers
