Hi
I've updated to Windows 10 V 2004 and installed the latest Audio drivers for my model. I have used all the troubleshooters and Virtual Assistant and yet I still have no SOUND?! The speaker icon is visible in the tray and I have uninstalled the Realtek Audio drivers and chip via device manager and restarted to no avail.
I'm loathed to RESET the PC as I will have to install a multitude of apps. I believe I'm a COMET LAKE chip (i7-10510u) so have downloaded that driver. I do notice that when it installs it hangs on a CMD window that keeps saying 'Press any key' and you press and key and it keeps repeating, doing nothing. Any help appreciated as I've spent days trying to fix this on a 2 months old HP laptop!!

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues with the audio on the computer.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
Based on your description, it looks like the audio driver is getting installed from the Windows updates and which is causing the audio issues. We need to find and stop that update from being installed on the computer.
Run the HP audio diagnostics and once the audio issue is resolved, go to Windows updates and stop the audio driver getting installed from the updates.
Here is how it is done.
First type “view installed updates” in the Search box. Click on the search result for Viewed Installed Updates – Control Panel. This opens the list of installed updates within the Programs and Features function of the Control Panel.
From the list of installed updates (which can be sorted by date of install) search for the Windows Update you wish to remove. Once you find it, left click to select and then click the Uninstall button at the top of the list, or right click the selected update and click Uninstall from the menu.
To hide or block Windows Updates or driver updates:
Once the Windows Update or driver update is uninstalled, you need to prevent Windows Update from automatically reinstalling the problem that started all of this. Fortunately, Microsoft has provided a new troubleshooter to show and hide updates that simplifies this process with KB3073930.
To get this troubleshooter, go to the Microsoft Download Center to download wushowhide.diagcab which can be downloaded here:
The troubleshooter will then provide step by step instructions to hide updates so that Windows will not automatically install them. The same troubleshooter also allows you to show Windows Updates that have been hidden, so that they can be automatically installed by Windows Update in case you change your mind.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Further to this issue if I run the HP Audio Diagnostics it fixes the issue. But after reboot the problem is there again. During diagnostics is says 'repair audio driver' which seems to fix the problem. Why does it not stay fixed and need repairing on reboot? Is this a faulty driver? I have Windows 2H20 installed.

Thanks very much for the reply. Finally it worked!! As you suggested it was Windows Update installing a dodgy driver. I used the Windows Update too to uninstall that element and then downloaded the driver from the HP Support page. I let HP do the auto install and it worked. For some reason when downloading and not using the HP instillation facility the driver update (xxx145) would fail on the CMD window and failed to install!
I've used REGEDIT to prevent Windows Update from automatic driver installs and will only use variants from my HP support module!
Thanks again!
