HP ENVY 13-ay1000 x360 Convertible PC (3T487AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

After updating my laptop, the earphones suddenly stopped working when I connect them. I tried the earphones with other devices, and it works so I am sure that the problem is with the laptop. I connected my wireless headphones to the laptop as well, and that works as well.

When I connect my earphones to my laptop, it continues playing on the speaker. My earphones are from Samsung, and I used a brand new Samsung earphone as well and that doesn't work too.

I tried all solutions on the internet, such as troubleshooting the audio, reinstalling the audio drivers, making the earphones the default device, etc., etc. Basically, I tried every solution I could find. My audio system is Bang & Olufsen, and my laptop is an HP Envy.

@Ryan170,

I am sure you thought of it/tried it: roll back the driver update.

Make sure -as I am sure you have- that your laptop is detecting your earphones as headphone and not as mic.

Uninstall anything related to audio drivers and start over again, so to speak: download the Realtek audio driver from here: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/19706/realtek-high-definition-audio-driver-for-wind...,  and install.

Good luck.

Kind Regards,

@Ryan170,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Try these troubleshooting steps: https://www.myfixguide.com/headphone-jack-not-working/.

If all else fails, I have found that a USB to 3.5mm jack audio adapter is one of the best work-arounds:

They come in all kinds of lengths and colors, pick one that has high customer approvals, for example: https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Headset-External-Headphone-Desktops/dp/B09QT3VD3P/ref=sr_1_29_sspa?cr....

Hope this was helpful.

I tried that article before as well.

As for the USB to 3.5mm jack, I don't want to purchase it for the simple reason that my earphones had been working perfectly fine on the laptop, but they stopped working after I installed the update.

Please recommend a workaround that doesn't require me to purchase anything extra or do anything drastic to my laptop i.e. reinstalling windows.

Thanks for the answer anyways.
