Hi,
I've been using an HP 15-dw1000 laptop for a few years now, and up until recently I've had no problem with it. However, about a month ago, I noticed that there was a crackling sound coming through my headphones (3.5mm) whenever it was charging. I was able to diminish that sound to a low volume by twisting around the connector of the charger to a sweet spot.
A few days after that, the problem started to rise up again. This time there would also be a high pitched sound whenever I moved my USB mouse. I tried a different mouse, and while it didn't cause a high-pitched sound, it did cause other electrical-sounding noise. Unfortunately I still have to use the mouse that causes the high pitch sound, because the other one's buttons do not work.
Fast forward to today, and the high pitch sound is occuring even when my laptop is not charging, along with another humming sound that is always there, becomes high pitched when I move my mouse and goes back to being lower pitched after I don't move my mouse for a second.
How can I fix this, and could this potentially harm other parts?

Hi @Coen7,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're experiencing electrical interference issues with your HP 15-dw1000 laptop. These kinds of noises can be quite frustrating, but there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:
- Check Power Adapter and Charger: Ensure that your laptop's power adapter and charger are in good condition and properly grounded. Sometimes, faulty adapters or improper grounding can cause electrical noises. Try using a different power outlet or adapter to see if the issue persists.
- Check Headphones and Connections: Verify that your headphones are working correctly and that the 3.5mm jack is clean and free of debris. Try using different headphones to rule out any issues with the headphones themselves.
- Check USB Devices: Since you mentioned that moving your USB mouse causes high-pitched sounds, it's possible that there's interference coming from USB peripherals. Try using a different USB port for your mouse or try a different mouse altogether to see if the issue persists.
- Update Drivers: Ensure that all your laptop's drivers, especially audio and chipset drivers, are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause compatibility issues that result in electrical noises.
- Check for Interference Sources: Electrical noises can sometimes be caused by nearby electronic devices or even Wi-Fi routers. Try moving your laptop to a different location or turning off nearby electronic devices temporarily to see if the noises change or disappear.
- Inspect for Physical Damage: Check the laptop and its accessories for any physical damage, loose connections, or exposed wires that could be causing interference.
