HP Notebook - 17-bs014tx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just did the latest Windows 10 April 2018 update and now the F6 mute button is not lighting up anymore - the mute function still works just on the light. It appears I have the latest driver already installed so I am not sure what else I can try, any ideas? Thanks.

Hi,

The only other suggestion I have at the moment would be to see if the Realtek installer package on the link below helps.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp87001-87500/sp87168.exe

Hi,

Try the following.

Download the Realtek HD Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp81001-81500/sp81393.exe

When done, hold down the Windows key and press R

Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter.

In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.

When complete, restart the notebook.

When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again and let windows fully load for a few minutes before checking the function of the mute led.

Yes, this happened to me.  And the fault lies with Windows 10 update, so it's down to HP to solve it.

I did it this way:

Control Panel /Device Manager/ Sound, Video and Game Controllers

Right click on AMD High Definition Audi Device

Select 'Update Driver'

Select 'Search Automatically for updated driver software'

Let is search and install, restart your computer, and the light should reappear

Well, mine did.

I found on another page to go to

Control Panel /Device Manager/ Sound, Video and Game Controllers

and then right click on the Realtek High Definition Audio and uninstall but NOT tick the delete driver box

then do a restart, (without having to reinstall anything else) and then the light works again.

Windows did another update this week and the light stopped working again, I did the same fix above and it fixed it again too.

Will keep your suggestion as well incase it happens again.

Cheers
