Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Trying to record a tape in desktop, but either mic input I use,  will automaticly mute and turn level down within a few seconde. Have done driver up dates several times.  Internial mic on my monitor works with skyps. None of inputs on tower stay on. Anyone have a possible clue about what my problem could be. Thanks, Mike

Hello, @mike1-_

Thanks for the update & appreciate your efforts 🙂

I understand the issue started happening after the Windows 10 update. These are the few steps recommended to fix this issue:

1. Run Audio Troubleshooter

  - Launch Troubleshooting by typing and clicking “Troubleshooting” in

     Windows search.

  - Click on "Playing Audio".

  - Follow the on-screen instructions.

2. Check if microphone isn't disabled.

  - Right click on the Volume Icon on the taskbar, select "Recording Devices".

  - Click on "Show disconnected devices", and "Show disabled devices".

  - Select on Microphone, click on "Properties". If it is disabled, enable it.

  - Once enabled, set Microphone as default audio input device.

3. Check if microphone isn't muted.

  - Right Click on the Volume icon on the taskbar, select "Volume Mixer".

  - On the Microphone slider, slide it up to 100%.

4. Boost sensitivity of Microphone

  - Right Click on the Volume icon on the taskbar, select "Recording".

  - Double click on Microphone.

  - Open the Levels Tab, move the Microphone boost slider up to check audio.

5. Disable enhancements

  - Right Click on the Volume icon on the taskbar, select "Recording“, Double

     click on Microphone.

  - Open the Enhancements / Effects Tab.

  - Check "Disable All Sound / System Effects“. Click Apply, OK, test the Microphone again.

6. Change format of the Microphone

  - Right click on the Volume Icon on the taskbar, select "Recording Devices".

  - Double click on Microphone.

  - Go to the Advanced Tab, choose any of the 16 bit options on the list.

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!

Cheers 🙂

Thanks for the reply.  Went through the procedures suggested and everything checked out. Still have the same problem. Mic position mutes after a few seconds.  Using the trouble shooting  wizard, it replies problem found mic muted, fixed and it will work for approz 20 sec. and mute.  My HP was purched with Win 7 and later upgraded to win 10, during the win free upgrade time frame.  Windows did the upgrade  on line.  Maybe there is something missing with the upgrade.  I have been using an old logitech Camera with built in mic for use on skype, and it always worked fine for ithis use. Now since win 10 it to mutes while using and I have to constantly  click unmite.  T thought it was just an ols system, but now trying to use another mic it also mutes.  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Thanks HP DVOTTEX, The last suggestion fixed my problem. When I launched  troubleshooting, it went through the checking and came back,  stating it had updated a generic driver and I should restart.  After restart, set default mic position, un muted and set level.  All mic positions are good now.
