I have a brand new laptop I just received ordered directly through the HP website. I plug in the HDMI cable and plug that cable into my TV and I get no sound through my TV. I already right clicked on the volume icon, and selected Playback Devices and there is no high definiion audio device listed. I've also already right clicked and selected Show Disabled/Disconnect Devices and nothing shows up.

How is it possible to have a brand new laptop with no HDMI sound capabilies? Please help. I've been trying to figure this out for days.

Hi:

See if reinstalling the Intel HD audio driver and restarting the PC resolves the problem.

The graphics driver installs the driver for the HDMI audio.

This package provides the driver that enables the Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. If high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) video output is supported, this package also installs the HDMI Audio Driver.

I'm not sure I have Intel HD Audio driver. I clicked on the link you provided but it didn't fix anything.

In device manager all I see is Speaker/HP Realtek High Definition Audio, but it says "the device is working property" in the properties.

Hi:

The Realtek audio only controls the speakers and headphones.

In the device manager, under the sound, video and game controllers device category, what do you see?

You should see the Realtek HD Audio device but you should also see another HD audio device (either Intel or Nvidia).

I'm pretty sure it should be Intel though, because if your notebook has the Intel/Nvidia graphics the Intel HDMI audio still controls the audio portion of the HDMI output.

If you only see a Realtek HD audio device listed there, then something is wrong, and you should contact HP technical support and submit a support case under the warranty.
