I have installed Windows 10 (both 32bit & 64bit version) onto an older HP DV2500. I CAN NOT get the sound to work. 😞
Note: I've tried to install ALL the audio drivers below via the Device Manager:
*- SP40270 - this driver did install correctly, but still no sound.
-34374 - Nope -didn't work.
-35682 - Nope -didn't work.
-36079 - Nope -didn't work.
-37730 - Nope -didn't work.
-39520 - Nope -didn't work.
-39679 - Nope -didn't work.
-36509 - Nope -didn't work.
- I've tried the 32bit trick (msconfig - [Boot]/[Advanced Options]/Max Memory = 3072) - Nope -didn't work..
HAS ANYONE got an Audio Driver to work on an HP DV2500 for Windows10 (either 32bit or 64bit)???
======
THE GOOD NEWS THOUGH:
Below are all the Other Drivers that DID WORK on the HP DV2500 for me: (thanks to CherylG)
FIXES MOST OF THE MISSING DRIVERS: sp37614
found here (scroll down toward the middle of page): https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebooks-Archive-Read-Only/General-Windows-7-Upgrade-Guide-for-HP-Lap...
FIXES THE CO-PROCESSOR: sp36607 - (fixes the missing Co Processor driver)
found here (scroll down toward the middle of page): https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebooks-Archive-Read-Only/General-Windows-7-Upgrade-Guide-for-HP-Lap...
FIXES THE VIDEO: I found that the - nVidia GeForce GO (7150M) driver works the best - found here: https://www.laptopvideo2go.com/
I still have NOT found a working Audio Driver. 😞
Good Luck ALL.

Hi:
I think you are on the right track with sp40270.
You may need to manually install the driver by going to the exact location if the audio setup information (inf) file.
Please post the hardware ID for the multimedia audio controller that needs the driver.
Use this guide for how to find the hardware ID for a device...
https://www.howtogeek.com/193798/how-to-find-drivers-for-unknown-devices-in-the-device-manager/
The driver folder has two different audio chip folders...Hermosa and Venice.
Need to go to the right one that has the same hardware ID as your audio controller.

Hi Paul, Thanks for the quick reply!
Yeah I should have just added the Hardware ID in my original post...
Hardware ID:
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5051&SUBSYS_103C30D6&REV_1000
Note: I had already attempted to track down the correct driver using the above Hardware ID but with out any success (hence why I reached out for help).
Thanks for the info about Venice vs. Hermosa. It's good information to understand.
So I'm assuming it's the Hermosa version since running the 'setup.exe' was successful from the folder: D:\sp40270\Hermosa\V32\setup.exe. But and the Venice version failed.
I'm still missing something as I still have no sound, but I feel we are getting closer to a solution.
NOTE: I also tried to add the Hardware ID directly into the Hermosa 32bit driver file: WiSVHez.inf (I added '&REV1000' to the end of the line so that it would match my Hardware ID. It installed successfully, but still no sound.
Below is the section of the 'WiSVHez.inf' file that I edited.
[Conexant]
%HdAudioFunctionDriver.Hermosa5051.DeviceDesc% = HdAudModel,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5051&SUBSYS_103C30CD
%HdAudioFunctionDriver.Hermosa5051.DeviceDesc% = HdAudModel,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5051&SUBSYS_103C30D6&REV_1000
Any further ideas would be greatly appreciated! It's seems like we are getting close to a solution.
Thanks again for you help with this matter.

You're very welcome.
You posted that you installed W10 x64.
So, if you are running W10 32 bit, you gave it your best shot.
But if you are indeed running W10 x64, you need to navigate from "Have Disk" to C:\SWSetup\sp40270\Hermosa\V64\WiSVHey setup information file, and click next.
You can check the other driver folder you tried and see if that hardware ID is also present in any of those and try the manual install.
You're not the only one that had this issue.
What I don't understand is why 100% don't have the problem. On some dv2000, dv6000 and dv9000 notebook's the audio works fine on W10.

Hi Paul,
So I originally install Win10 Pro-64bit (to take advantage of all 4gig of ram).
I found from another post that they solved the audio issue by forcing the system to use only 3072 of ram (which is the limit for 32bit windows) - so that is why I just tried to install a 32bit version of Win10-Pro. I see now that it's doesn't seem to matter whether it's 32bit or 64bit - there seems to be a difficult Audion Driver issue.
The main issue is to get the Audio to work. My goal was to eventually re-install the 64bit version once I figured out the Audio Driver issue.
I think my next step is to just start over:
-reinstall the Win10-Pro (64bit) - take advantage of the 4gigs of ram.
-then attempt to just install the Hermosa version from the sp40270 driver(64bit).
Paul - you seem to be one of the primary rock stars on this forum for solving people's issues. Thanks for all the work/info that you provide.
Note: I've been installing Windows/Linux on computers for over 30years and I literally have hundreds of installs under by belt. I usually track a driver down by just using it's Hardware ID to find out what the device is (mfg/make). Then I use that info to track down a usable driver and that has always seemed to work for me in the past. I've never really delved this far down the 'driver rabbit hole' before. This is the first computer/driver that I've had so many issues with.
- can you explain more about the *.inf file used in the driver files? ie. was my idea of modifying the 'WiSVHey.inf' to include the exact wording of my Hardware ID the right idea? I have never tried that before.
-Is there a file that I need to look at/edit in the 'C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository' folder? Or is that where the contents of the WiSVHey.inf stored after the install?
- Any info you can give me about the drivers would be greatly appreciated.
I will check this post again once I'm done re-installing the Win10-Pro(64bit) version onto this DV2500 and before I try do install the sp40270 driver(64bit) again.
Note: I know it seems very weird how some folks seem to get the audio to work, while others (like me) are not able too. Oh well, I'm gonna keep trying as this computer seems to work great. It would be sad to just throw it away just because the sound won't work. 😐
Thanks again - JonniJi.

You're very welcome.
Wasn't the 3072 memory thing only good for the G60 and G70 models?
Those had newer versions of the Conexant audio system.
You don't need to modify the inf because it already contains the exact hardware ID driver support.
The problem may that W10 doesn't understand the setup information file coding that was written for Vista a the time.
Hopefully, you will be able to get the sound to work.
In addition, check this forum post...the dv6700 uses the same audio chip as the dv2500.

Hi There Again Paul,
This topic is done regarding the audio driver for the HP DV2500!!! The audio is working.
- I rebuilt the computer using Win10 Pro - 64bit .
- I installed ALL the missing drivers (as listed above).
As for the Audio device, the windows installation used/installed the driver: Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221.
I tried to play an .mp3 file and still no sound out came out of the speakers. BUT, I finally decided to try the headphone jack and viola - I got sound!!!
It seems that the internal connection to the speakers is broken (or maybe bad internal speakers?). It might out the case to see if it's an easy fix.
Either way - all that trouble looking for an audio driver was for not as it seems to initial driver was correct the entire time.
Ugh.. I recovered this computer from a junk pile to build and give away to someone stranded in their house (due to Covid19). They will just have to use the headphone jack if they want/need sound.
Thanks again for all your help Paul.. You are The Best!
Sincerely,
-JonniJi

Anytime.
Glad to have been of assistance.
Sorry that the speaker connection is no good, but at least you were able to figure out the problem.
They can also use a pair of USB powered notebook speakers, where you connect the audio Jack into the headphone Jack.
