The sound on my HP ENVY X360 was working fine and then stopped for seemingly no reason. My sound icon has a red "X" over it and reads, "No speakers or headphones are plugged in." But no sound is working at all, not the built-in speakers and not my headphones. The volume control won't even pull up.
I've got a bunch of sound devices showing up and don't want to mess around with the wrong one. What should I do to restore my sound?
Thank you!

Welcome to HP Forums,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂
I see that your experiencing difficulties with audio on HP envy x360 notebook. I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue.
Let's uninstall the existing sound driver in your laptop and reinstall a new driver for your sound device.
- What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824 (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).
- When was the last time it worked fine?
- Have you tried any troubleshooting steps?
- Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
While you respond to that, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:
1) Open Device Manager in your laptop.
2) Double-click Sound, video and game controllers to expand it. (Realtek High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver-Ignore Intel )
3) Right-click your sound device and click Uninstall device. (Realtek High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver-Ignore Intel )
4) Confirm the uninstallation. Check the box next to Delete the driver software for this device if there’s an option like this, then confirm the uninstall. (Realtek High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver-Ignore Intel )
5) Restart your computer and Windows will automatically download and install the latest sound driver for your device. After that, check the sound to see if it works.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
