HP ENVY x360 15-ey0155ng

Brand new Envy x360, just unpacked:

The front speakers remain silent regardless of what I do. Sound always comes from the speakers below the device and is muffled and silent even on volume 100. I tried all the standards (restarts, drivers, audio settings...).

This is the second device with the same problem (the first had it also from day 1). I just returned the first and received this as a replacement. If I hadn't seen a review before, in which the author praises the excellent sound due to the forwards oriented speakers, I would already have sent this one back as well.

I'm pretty frustrated by the inability to contact real people at hp support...

Hi @Timkl13,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the front speakers on your HP Envy 360 are silent, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to identify and resolve the problem.

  • Check the volume settings: Make sure that the volume is not muted and turned up to an audible level. You can adjust the volume using the physical buttons on the laptop or through the volume control in the taskbar (if you are using Windows).
  • Test different audio sources: Try playing audio from various sources like videos, music files, or online streaming services to determine if the issue is specific to a particular application or across all sources.
  • Restart your laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix audio-related problems by resetting system configurations.
  • Check audio output settings: Ensure that the correct audio output device is selected. Right-click on the volume icon in the taskbar (Windows) and select "Open Sound settings" or "Playback devices." Choose the appropriate device as the default playback option.
  • Check audio drivers: Outdated or corrupted audio drivers can cause sound-related problems. Update your audio drivers by going to the manufacturer's website or using the Device Manager (Windows).
  • Run Windows Troubleshooter: Windows has built-in troubleshooting tools for audio issues. Right-click on the volume icon in the taskbar, select "Troubleshoot sound problems," and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Check for updates: Ensure that your operating system is up to date, as updates may include bug fixes and improvements related to audio.
  • Check for physical issues: Make sure there are no physical obstructions blocking the speakers. Also, check for any loose connections or damage to the audio ports.
  • Test with headphones or external speakers: Plug in headphones or external speakers to check if the issue is specific to the laptop's speakers. If external devices work fine, it may indicate a problem with the built-in speakers.
  • Restore system defaults: If none of the above steps work, you can try restoring your system to the default settings, which might help resolve software-related issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
