@esflksdflkn

I understand your concerns.

In that case, I would suggest you perform the system reset.

Windows 10 has a reset feature that repairs your computer by reinstalling the operating system. This feature is recommended for recovery because it reinstalls Windows 10 while either preserving your personal data and customizations or removing all your personal data.

You have a choice of two methods to reset your computer.

  • If Windows 10 loads correctly, see the section titled Perform a Windows 10 system reset in Windows in this document.

  • If Windows 10 does not start correctly, see the section titled Perform a Windows 10 system reset through Windows Recovery Environment in this document.

Have a nice day!!

Are you still having problems with your laptop? I still do. This is the worst support I have seen on the internet. I guess there is a small group of us with faulty products and they don't give a **bleep** about us. My 6-year old has to restart her computer every few hours thus missing out on her school time.

Praveen, where do you want me to provide you with the product key, receipt of purchase, whatever you need?

I need to fix this laptop ASAP. My kid is going through a rough time because of this issue. A pity for a such a nice looking laptop.

Sort of.  It's sad we have to resort to this kind of peer-to-peer support because HP & AMD are unwilling to address it.  But that's a soapbox I don't have time to stand on right now, and at least we all have each other.

I am continuing to try various fixes and versions of driver software.  I am an IT consultant, and these issues are with laptops that my client has - so I do not have one always in possession to test.  At this point I am fairly hopeful that using the June 24th version of the driver software (driver date actually shows up as 5/19 in Device Manager) is a solid fix.  However, what I've found is that you have to go about installing this in a very particular way.  It's detailed in this thread in other posts, but for simplicity's sake, here's a brief outline of the steps:

  • Open Device Manager, expand Display Adapters, right-click on and uninstall the AMD Radeon Graphics driver
  • Run the AMD Cleanup Utility (Google for this and download from AMD's site). This will reboot the device in to Safe Mode and purge all existing AMD driver software (except for required chipset drivers).
  • After the device reboots normally, install the 6/24 version of the driver (https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp105501-106000/sp105744.exe).  Again this shows up with a driver date of 5/19 in Device Manager ... don't be fooled. Ha!

At other's suggestion, I've also temporarily paused Windows Updates.  This is just to ensure that Windows Update doesn't look at the "older" driver and say "oh, I have a newer and better one" and overwrite things.

I hope this helps you out.  Again, I completely agree that it's pathetic support coming from the HP/AMD side.  Recommending a system reset is a sham.

Thank you for you help! I'll follow your steps and hopefully it will fix mine too.

I tried these steps and now I get this message :the driver is not supported on this os version (10.0.19042)

I did a few times but no result. Any idea why this happens?

Hmm, I'm not exactly sure about that error. I think most of the laptops I've been working on for this issue have been running Windows 10 2004 or earlier.  The OS version number you gave is for the latest 20H2 release.  It would be really crappy if now there's a conflict with the version of Windows as well.

HP Recommended

you are so correct! it has something to do with the 20H2 update. I remember I installed sp105501 on this computer without any issues 2-3 weeks ago. I think I'm just going to disable AMD Graphics driver and use the microsoft basic display adapter instead. Do you think it will fix it and my daughter will even need this AMD Graphics card at all?! She is 6!

Any port in a storm, as they say. Ha! I think there's certainly no harm in stripping out all of the AMD software then letting the laptop use the MS basic driver. It may impact the display resolution options, but it sounds like that isn't an issue.

Keep us posted on your progress ... we're all in this thing together. 😉

I’m not sure what has happened but I have had no issues as of late. The only thing that has changed is that I have done the updates. Has anyone found a permanent fix for this yet?
