First off, I do not know how to find my modekl number.
I have lost sound on both of my HP envy laptop computers at or around the samr time. I pulled up some compuiter info usung DXDIAG and it does not show a sound card, speakers or recording device installed. I pulled up the device list and on the sound, video and game controllers section it has IDT HIGH DEFINITION CODEC listed with an amber alert triangle on it. When i click the item the properties window opens and under the "general" tab under device status it tells me "Reinstall the drivers for this device. (code 18)". Everytime i attempt to install the driver it tells me "Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.". I do not know what else to do.

Hello,
Please try this :
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63501-64000/sp63555.exe
When done, hold down the Windows key and press R
Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter.
In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall and restart.
When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, restart the notebook and let windows fully load.
