HP ENVY x360 - 15m-cn0011dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So this is the second time this has happened now. My grandma bought a HP ENVY x360 - 15m-cn0011dx earlier this year and lately it has been losing all sound. This is the second time I've had to fix it and I really don't want to have to do this again. I've played with all the possible function keys to see if they were the culprit (nope), run the troubleshooter (didn't work), looked for any recent driver updates (nothing), rolled back the driver the first time this happened and it worked, for TWO WEEKS. Last night it started the same issue. I did the troubleshooter (nada), checked all the startup stuff to make sure that it wasn't a problem caused by reboot (nay), removed Skype because maybe it's taking over the audio (zilch), I uninstalled the realtek audio driver and rebooted. It works, for now, but considering it reinstalled itself I doubt it will stay that way.

Is there a way I can keep this from happening again? I'd really appreciate it.

(My p.o.s. Toshiba laptop that's had more issues that I can count has never had a Realtek Audio issue so this $900 computer shouldn't...)

@Tori_L

Please download and install the following Realtek Audio software:

   https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp95501-96000/sp95513.exe

Hope this helps.

Regards.

I am having the same problem.

HP Envy Laptop and about a month ago, I lost sound.  Did the google search .... uninstalled / reinstalled the Realtek Audio drivers and sound worked for about 3 days.  This is happening at least twice a week now.  I have to go through the Realtek audio driver update and reboot to get sound back.

Not sure how to make this stop from happening over and over again.

First try restoring your windows to last update or driver update. Or try uninstall and download driver from Hp website for your specific model.

Also try rollback driver.

Thanks for the advice

I did uninstall the current driver and went back to hp.com/drivers and chose and older one.

As usual ... after the driver install was done the sound was fine.  Then today after work, I power

on the laptop and no sound.  Reinstall the same driver and sound is back.

Extremely frustrating ... almost want to factory reset the laptop, but concerned it will end up

being a waste of time, since whatever is causing this will end up being updated again
