Two days ago, the on-board mic on my quite new HP Envy x360 stopped working. When I go to the Sound Settings on the taskbar, the microphone test picks up my voice just fine, and appears quite responsive to all noises in general. However, in both Skype and Zoom, the mic does not pick up any audio at all.
My immediate theory was that my permissions might have been messed up by a recent Windows update, but when I went to Settings > Privacy > Microphone, all of the relevant app permissions were enabled. I have tried to futz with settings in both Zoom and Skype, but it seems unlikely that anything local to those apps could have gone wrong with both of them simultaneously. The mic is the Intel Smart Sound Microphone Array, and that is the mic I have set as the default in both apps.
Obviously I have restarted my computer any number of times, downloaded the most recent Realtek drivers, and I even tried updating my graphics drivers, since other threads bizarrely recommended that as a mic fix, but of course none of this did anything. I am at a loss, and I need to fix this very urgently since a great deal of my job takes place on Skype and Zoom.

I went into Device Manager- Audio inputs and outputs- rt click on Microphone Array- Properties-Driver- Uninstall Device- Restart computer. That re-installed the drivers and my microphone worked on Zoom and Skype again.
