SpectreXT Pro 13-b000
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought this laptop back in July refurbished to give to a family member for Zoom calls during the pandemic.

It's been mostly great, but there has been one recurring problem that appears to be related to the audio driver.
Completely randomly, the audio driver seems to disappear, the audio device is listed as 'not working properly' in Device Manager, and Windows displays a red cross over the volume control.
Sometimes it happens multiple times a day, sometimes it won't happen for a few weeks and then happens again. It makes no difference whether the laptop is in use or not - it can happen whilst using it or whilst leaving it alone, returning and finding there is no audio.

I have spent hours attempting to find the cause of this issue. I have tried installing multiple different versions of the audio drivers from HP, getting messages such as "Hardware doesn't support IDT driver" etc etc, as well as researching through various forum posts online to diagnose the issue.

The main frustration with it is that I simply cannot figure out how to replicate the problem deliberately. It seems to be completely random. Every time I think I figure it out and fix it, it happens again.

It has got to the point where I have run out of ideas on how to fix it.
It's a very frustrating problem because each time there isn't a set method on how to fix it. Generally I try uninstalling the audio device in device manager, rebooting, then installing the driver again. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and I have to repeat the exact same process multiple times.

At the moment it is not working at all. High Definition Audio Controller is giving an error (Code 10 - unable to start) in Device Manager, and whenever I try to install any of the IDT drivers I get an error that the hardware does not support this IDT driver. It's infuriating.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Please download and install

Hope this helps.

Hi @Banhien

Thanks for your reply.

I have tried the driver you linked. Download, Run as Admin, then install. The first 'section' of the installer goes without a hitch. However, then it opens up the IDT installer. After a couple of seconds, an error message comes up on the screen saying

"The hardware detected is not supported by this IDT software package. The install will be aborted."

I now haven't been able to get the audio working for a couple of days.

Please let me know where to go from here.

Thanks!
