HP Notebook - 15-ac121dx

My HP Notebook will not play sound out of either internal speakers or headphones. I have tried several different driver updates. I have updated BIOS. I have tried different external speakers. The sound device is present but not playing anything. I have even tried a factory reset. Nothing has worked. The problem existed in Windows 10 and persisted in my upgrading to Windows 11. Speakers are silent and headphones only play faint static regardless of whether audio is playing in the Windows.

What can I do? This is starting to annoy me.

Hi @schquaggerly,

Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I see that you are facing audio issues with your HP Notebook.

Please follow the steps listed below to update the audio drivers:

  1. In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
  2. Double-click Audio inputs and outputs.
  3. If a sound device is listed with a down arrow, the device is disabled. Right-click the sound device name, and then select Enable device.
  4. With the sound device enabled, right-click the sound device, and then select Update driver.
  5. Select Search automatically for updated driver software.
  6. Wait while Windows checks for and installs any updated drivers. If prompted, restart the computer.

You may also follow the steps from this document. (Click on the word document to open the web page).

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
