OMEN 17.3 inch Gaming Laptop PC 17-ck1000 RCTO Base Model
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello all,

I have been trying to solve my issue for almost 6 months, I have received a defective unit ( HP OMEN 17) from HP that makes a ridiculous annoying crackling and buzzing sound continuously. I went to an authorized HP repair center where they replaced my speaker but it did not solve the problem.

I can see this defect is very common in new OMEN laptops. The product is still under warranty, however, HP refuses to send other parts to fix the laptop, I have to get it all the way to the USA which is impossible. I really need all the help I can get to fix this laptop as I am muting the speaker to avoid the crackling sound.

best,
Shahan

Hi @shahan2,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are facing an issue with the speakers on your Laptop.

Please follow the steps below to perform an audio test to confirm if the hardware is working fine.

1) Shut down the computer.

2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.

3) Press F2 once.

4) click Component Tests > click Audio, and then click Run once.

If you are getting crackling sound from the speakers, there is an issue with the hardware.

If there is no crackling sound on the hardware diagnostics, Update the BIOS for your PC by clicking on the link.

Make sure you keep only the charger plugged in while updating the BIOS for your PC.

Click on the + sign next to BIOS and then download the file.

Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

Please install all the pending updates for the Windows operating system following the below steps.

go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for updates. If the upgrade is available for your device and you want to proceed, download and install it.

Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution. Click the “Kudos/Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!

Dear Irwin

Thank you for replying and trying to help. I tried the first step the hardware was okay, no visible crackling sound was made.  I also tried to update the bios, which went seamlessly. However,  when I turned on the laptop the crackling sound remained.
Are there any other methods we can try?

Thank you for your time.

Hey man, did you try with other's headphone or earphone? I am sure it is a software issue or at least chip / electrical circuit issue, when I change to other headphone or earphone, the crackling sound from speakers still remains, keep happening.
The audacity of HP to let us down, left hanging day by day, just astonishingly bad.

I don't think it's a software issue, it must be hardware since when I plug in my headphones no more buzzing, or crackling sounds appear. Now my touchpad is also glitching, this laptop is a disaster.
HP has let me down, I will never buy HP again. I just want to get rid of this laptop, I cannot sell it, nobody wants to buy it, and I cannot repair it because apparently, the warranty applies in the USA only.
