Good evening from Graham

I am seeking some advice and direction please with my

Four HP PAVILION 14.

Clean Window 11 install successful but lost all audio input and output

And occasionally USB connections – have managed to install external USB CD read/write drive ok

The Audio tag when clicked “No Audio Device Installed” so there is no audio output at all, and secondly no connection with USB devices when then are inserted External Speakers and  External USB CD recorder/player.

The Device Manager for Sound/Video/game controller, shows:

Intel® Display Audio Drivers

And

Realtek/R Audio Drivers

The USB ports do pick-up USB portable drives and allow access to data stored on them.

I have tried deleting and reloading drivers and rebooting notebook

Tried ‘swsetup’ folder install but mass of installation - swsetup folder contains about five driver numbers?

Am I missing any driver maybe or is it something more basic please?

Grateful thanks

GRAHAM

Hi @GW110,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Pavilion 14 notebooks are showing “No Audio Device Installed” after a clean Windows 11 installation, with loss of internal audio and intermittent USB device detection. Let’s go through a few structured steps to identify what’s missing and restore functionality.

Confirm Windows audio services are running

Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and open it.

Ensure Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder are both set to Running and the startup type is Automatic.

Check Device Manager for hidden or disabled devices

Open Device Manager and click View > Show hidden devices.

Expand sound, video, and game controllers and system devices.

Look for any devices with a yellow triangle or listed as an unknown device.

Verify the correct Realtek audio driver

The presence of “Realtek(R) Audio” alone does not guarantee the correct driver.

Right-click Realtek(R) Audio > Uninstall device, check “Delete the driver software for this device,” and then restart.

After reboot, install the HP-specific Realtek audio driver for your exact Pavilion 14 model, not the generic Realtek one.

Install the Intel chipset driver first

Audio and USB rely on chipset components.

Install the Intel Chipset Installation Utility from HP’s driver page for the Pavilion 14.

Reboot after installation before installing audio or USB-related drivers.

Install Intel Serial IO and Intel Management Engine

These drivers are commonly required for audio detection and internal buses.

Missing Serial IO or MEI drivers can cause “No Audio Device Installed” even if Realtek is present.

Check BIOS audio settings

Restart the notebook and enter BIOS (usually F10).

Confirm internal audio or onboard audio is enabled.

Save changes and exit if anything was disabled.

Run Windows Update including optional updates.

Go to Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates.

Install any driver updates related to audio, chipset, or USB.

USB device behavior clarification

Since USB storage works but audio devices do not, this points to a driver stack issue, not a hardware failure.

Installing chipset and Serial IO drivers usually resolves partial USB functionality.

I hope this helps.
