Hi all,
Ive just about tried everything and now suspect a hardware failure looking for troubleshooting tips here.
Audio was working fine. Reset the PC now having massive audio issues. HP does not list the driver. Seems all drivers are now out of date for this one? Can someone point me in the right direction here? Seeing intermittent behaviour across the board with hardware. Does a driver exisit?

Hi @Laptopguy88
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thanks for sharing all those details—it really helps paint a clear picture. I know how frustrating it is when something that was working perfectly suddenly goes haywire after a reset.
Let’s walk through a few steps that might help bring your audio back to life. 🎧
🔍 Step 1: Check for Available Drivers
Even though it looks like the official support page doesn’t list a dedicated audio driver for your current Windows build, you can still try manually checking here:
Try selecting Windows 10 (64-bit) as your OS version and look for any Realtek High Definition Audio or Intel Smart Sound Technology drivers.
🧰 Step 2: Use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics
Run a quick audio test to rule out hardware failure:
- Download HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for Windows.
- Launch the tool and go to Component Tests > Audio > Audio Playback Test.
- Follow the prompts to check speaker and headphone output.
🔄 Step 3: Reinstall Audio Drivers via Device Manager
Since your system shows a null driver, try this:
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- If you see any unknown or problematic audio devices, right-click and Uninstall.
- Reboot your PC.
- Windows may attempt to reinstall a generic driver automatically.
If nothing shows up, try scanning for hardware changes:
- In Device Manager, click Action > Scan for hardware changes.
📦 Step 4: Try a Compatible Driver Manually
Some users have had success installing older Realtek drivers manually:
After downloading:
- Right-click the .exe file and choose Run as administrator.
- Follow the install prompts and reboot.
🧠 Step 5: BIOS Audio Settings
If the device still doesn’t show up:
- Enter BIOS (usually by pressing F10 during boot).
- Look for an Onboard Audio setting and ensure it’s set to Enabled.
Let me know how it goes—whether something clicks or if we need to dig deeper. You’ve been incredibly thorough already, and we’re close to cracking this! 💪
