HP Spectre x360 Convertible 15-bl1xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop (HP Specter x360 Convertible 15-bl1xx laptop) suddenly started to make crackling noises and high pitched sounds yesterday as I used my computer.  I had to mute my computer to make that horrendous sound go away.

Now when I unmute the laptop and put anything on with volume (ie:  a video on how to repair this on YouTube), the sound re-emerges and seems to be there non-stop, where I have to close out of the video and minimize screens to make the sound go away.

What is going on?  How do I fix this?  Why is this happening on a computer that is just a few years old?  I don't even take this laptop out of the house or away from the desk - so this is not a case of misuse.

Thanks.

Hi @RockStar1974

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I recommend you test the audio using headphones and check whether you are able to duplicate the issue on the headphones.

Meanwhile, try updating Bios and run all the available updates on the HP Support Assistant.

refer to -How to Download, Install, and Use HP Support Assistant (Windows)

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

What is Bios?   (You stated to update Bios.)

Can you pls provide me a link that shows me where to find Bios on my computer and how to update it?

I see the second part of your suggestion - regarding installing hp support assistant.  I already have that on my computer.  Are you suggesting I delete and reinstall that?

Thank you.

If you already have the HPSA just ensure it is up to date

You can update the BIOS from this Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-spectre-15-bl000-x360-convertible-pc/13823372
