HP Spectre x360 - 13-aw0013dx

My internal microphone has stopped working.   The system does not recognize it and it does not show up in Sound or Device Manager.  The internal microphone driver seems to be missing but HP diagnostics say that all drivers are loaded and up to date.   I can't seem to find a driver online.  Is there something different about Win 11?

Hi @Linden87,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your internal microphone on the HP Spectre X360 - 13 has stopped working and is not recognized by the system, it can be frustrating. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

Check for Physical Issues:

  • Make sure there's no physical obstruction covering the microphone, such as dust or debris.
  • Check if the microphone is muted or disabled. Sometimes, there's a physical mute button or switch on the laptop or on the keyboard.

Restart Your Computer:

  • Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve hardware and driver-related issues.

Update Windows:

  • Ensure that your Windows operating system is up to date. Sometimes, Windows updates include fixes for hardware issues.

Run HP Diagnostics:

  • If you haven't already, run HP Diagnostics again to check for any hardware issues. Sometimes, it can provide more detailed information about the problem.

Check for Driver Updates:

  • Go to the HP Support website and enter your laptop's model number to find the latest audio drivers for your laptop. Download and install any available updates.

Roll Back Audio Driver:

  • Sometimes, a driver update can cause issues. You can try rolling back to a previous version of the audio driver. To do this, go to Device Manager, find the audio device, right-click, and select "Properties." In the "Driver" tab, you should see an option to roll back the driver if it's available.

Check Microphone Privacy Settings:

  • In Windows, go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone. Make sure that microphone access is allowed for the apps you want to use it with.

Reset Windows Audio Settings:

  • In Windows, go to Settings > Sound > Sound Control Panel (under Related settings). In the Sound window, go to the Recording tab, right-click and enable "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices." If the microphone appears, right-click and enable it.

System Restore:

  • If the issue started after a recent software change or update, you can try using System Restore to revert your computer to a previous state when the microphone was working.

Remember to back up important data before making any significant changes to your system, such as rolling back drivers or performing a system restore.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Alden4

The only thing I have not tried is a system restore.  It's as if the system thinks there never was a built in microphone.

-HP diagnostics thinks all is well and does not realize their is an internal microphone not working.

-There is no driver on my system. and when I try to search for one, nothing comes up anywhere for a Win11 driver from HP or anywhere else, hidden or otherwise.

-system up to date, drivers up to date, system restarted multiple times.

-I can't roll back the driver because the device does not show up in the device manager

-Privacy settings checked and OK

-Reset audio settings: the internal microphone does not show up, (not disabled, not disconnected, just not there).

Would you have a driver you could send?
