HP Spectre x360 - 13-ae013dx Convertible PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hello,

Seeking guidance.  I have a HP Spectre x360 laptop running on Windows 10 Home purchased on September 2018.  Last week, I went into HP Support Assistant and downloaded the recommended updates (HP Notebook System BIOS Update - Intel Processors and HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI).  Afterwards, whenever I listen to audio (music on Spotify, listening to something on Youtube, etc), I’m hearing crackling/hissing/static sound from the speakers the entire time.  It’s driving me crazy.  Can anyone please advise on how I can resolve this issue?  I’m not that tech savvy at all so I would appreciate some detailed steps please.  It would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

@JC-Crixus30,

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues with the audio on your computer.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you follow the below steps and check if it helps.

Run Audio Troubleshooter

  - Launch Troubleshooting by typing and clicking “Troubleshooting” in Windows search.

  - Click on "Playing Audio".

  - Follow the on-screen instructions.

If you continue facing the issue, then uninstall the audio driver from the device manager and then download and install it from the below link.

https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers

Here is how it is done.

  1. Type "Device Manager" into the search field to open the device manager console.
  2. Expand the node that represents the type of device that you want to uninstall, right-click the device entry, and click Uninstall.
  3. On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK to start the uninstall process.
  4. When the uninstall process is complete, remove the device.

NOTE: On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click the Delete the driver software for this device option to delete the driver package that was used for the device.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

@The_Fossette,

I ran the Audio Troubleshooter and followed the steps, but that did not solve the issue.

I then tried to follow the steps you listed for uninstalling the audio driver from the Device Manager, but I have a question.

  1. Type "Device Manager" into the search field to open the device manager console.
  2. Expand the node that represents the type of device that you want to uninstall, right-click the device entry, and click Uninstall.

From Device Manager, which one should I select to uninstall?  I'm not sure which one to select.

Audio inputs and outputs

- Microphone Array (Realtek High Definition Audio (SST))

- Speaker/Headphone (Realtek High Definition Audio (SST))

OR

Sound, video and game controllers

- Intel(R) Display Audio

- Realtek High Definition Audio (SST)

@JC-Crixus30,

I recommend you uninstall everything related to audio in the device manager and download and install the audio driver.
