HP Spectre x360 13-023dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just bought the new 2016 model of the HP Spectre x360 a little over a week ago and it was working fine until I got back from work today. Now, the audio is either not connecting or not being recognized by the computer. The F6 audio mute button was lit up and the audio icon in the lower right hand corner of the screen had the error message "No Audio Output Devices is Installed". I couldn't get the external speakers to work or my headphones when I plugged them in. Restarting the laptop was the recommendation I got from troubleshooting the issue, so I did that but all that did was stop the F6 audio button from lighting up. The device manager doesn't list any sort of audio related driver as far as I can tell. This morning I downloaded some of the updates HP recommended in their support assistant including a BIOS update so I figured that may have been the cause of the problem. I restored my system to a previous point (a couple days ago), but that didn't help at all. Does anyone know of a fix for this issue?

Hi!  I had exactly the same problem on my 5 day old Spectre 360.  Fixed it by going into device manager and rolling back the audio driver to the previous driver.  Fixed it and didn't even have to reboot!.  Give it a try.  Apparently an auto update screwed it up.

Yeah that worked thanks. I ended up calling customer support and they did that for me remotely. I'm pretty sure the problem was that update, but it works now.

This has happened to me too. How do you "roll back" to the prvious audio driver?

I have had the same problem on two occasions now on a new 2017 Spectre 360, and both have occured when I have restarted the computer from within Windows while leaving a remote audio device plugged in (once it was a USB headset and microphone, the other time it was a set of Bose earbud headphones). When the system restarts there is a red crossout 'X' symbol on the audio icon on the task bar, and plugging in or removing the remote audio device does not affect it. The internal speakers will not work and are not recognised.

The only way I have 'fixed' this now both times was by performing a "hard reset" - 15 sec hold on power down switch followed by restarting with the power adaptor plugged in and turned on.

Would rolling back the audio driver be an advisable solution to try for this bug?

Hi! @DLB_Sydney, Thanks for stopping by HP forums!

I understand you are getting no audio output device is installed on your PC.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?

Please provide the product number of your PC to assist you better.

I have checked the records and found a service advisory related to the issue you have mentioned.

The audio function does not work after installing Windows 10 Anniversary update. A red "x" is displayed on the speaker icon in the system tray. When the mouse cursor is placed over the speaker icon, the following message is displayed.

You have to uninstall the audio drivers from device manager on your PC and install the latest audio drivers.

Please update the Conexant High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver using this link.

Let me know if this works!

Have a pleasant day ahead! 🙂

The product # of my device is: T0Y36PA.

The problem is not as you described - my problem only occurs if I shutdown with a remote audio device connected PLUS I do not get the msg that you suggest.

Thanks.

I appreciate your efforts for trying out the steps.

As you mentioned the steps provided previously did not work.

Please try the steps recommended below.

I suggest we take the following steps to troubleshoot this issue:

1. Remove the sound software from Control Panel.

2. Remove sound driver if you can see it in Device Manager.

3. Restart the computer, open device manager and click on “Scan for hardware changes”

4. If no audio device can be detected, you might need to update the BIOS and audio drivers.

Update the audio drivers using this link.

Also, update the BIOS using this link.
