HP e240c
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

1.  this a display audio question - the board doesn't have that as an option so the one chosen is a near fit.

2.  The display has cable connections for usb, VGA, audio (from PC speaker jack to display audio input jack) and everything (speakers, imagery, webcam+microphone) works fine in VGA mode.

3.  When I connect an hdmi cable between the PC and display everything but audio seems to work:  in this configuration, the display speakers are dead.

4.  I've reviewed the windows 7/control panel sound drivers in various default and default communications configurations, esp the one with sound via hdmi, and while those setups test the display speakers OK, with running software the sound is dead.

5.  the display driver is as up-to-date as I can get it, at HP v1.0.0.1 dated 22/6/15.  A later dated item (10/15) is in fact the same version.

6.  when I disconnect the hdmi cable (just un-plug one end from the display) and revert to VGA mode, everything works again.

question(s)

a.  what is causing the sound to go dead when I connect an hdmi cable?

b.  what windows sound driver config is needed to get the video and sound to work together using hdmi??
