My HP wdws 11 laptop will not detect any BT headphones/earbuds. Bluetooth is turned on.

I have tried an external BT dongle adapter, Creative BT-W6, and can't get that to work either.

I think my drivers are up to date?

In "services" the first two bluetooth services are set to "running" and "automatic". The third BT service "Bluetooth User Support Service_1376c0" is set to "running", but I cannot set it to automatic. When I try to apply automatic it says "The parameter is incorrect".

What am I doing wrong?

Hi @Blueshound24Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Bluetooth connectivity!

Bluetooth troubles can be like an invisible tug-of-war, you know it's there, but it just won’t connect! Let’s untangle this mystery and get your headphones synced up properly.

1. Restart Bluetooth Services

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Find these services and restart them:
    • Bluetooth Support Service
    • Bluetooth Audio Gateway Service
    • Bluetooth User Support Service
  • Right-click each service → Properties → Set Startup type to Automatic → Click Apply & OK.

2. Check Bluetooth Drivers

  • Press Win + X → Select Device Manager.
  • Expand Bluetooth and look for any error symbols (! or ?).
  • Right-click your Bluetooth adapter → Select Update driverSearch automatically.
  • If the issue persists, right-click and Uninstall device, then restart your laptop. Windows will reinstall the driver.

3. Check Windows Bluetooth Settings

  • Go to Settings → Bluetooth & devices and ensure Bluetooth is turned on.
  • Click Add a device and try pairing your earbuds.
  • Under More Bluetooth settings, ensure "Allow Bluetooth devices to find this PC" is enabled.

4. Run Bluetooth Troubleshooter

  • Open Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters.
  • Run the Bluetooth troubleshooter and follow on-screen instructions.

5. Check Airplane Mode & Power Saving Settings

  • Ensure Airplane mode is off.
  • Go to Device Manager → Bluetooth adapterPower Management tab.
  • Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

6. Test External Bluetooth Adapter (Creative BT-W6)

  • If using an external Bluetooth adapter, disable the internal one in Device Manager.
  • Try different USB ports and reinstall the BT-W6 drivers from Creative’s website.

7. Reset Network Settings (If Nothing Works)

  • Open Settings → Network & internet → Advanced network settings.
  • Click Network reset → Restart your PC.

If the issue persists, check if the headphones work with another device to rule out hardware issues. Let me know if you need further assistance!

Tech can be stubborn, but we’ll get this sorted! Try these steps and let me know how it goes—I’m here to make sure you don’t have to suffer in Bluetooth silence. 🎧🔧

Thanks I did most of your steps, however...

In "services" the first two Bluetooth services are set to "running" and "automatic". The third BT service "Bluetooth User Support Service_1376c0" is set to "running", but I cannot set it to automatic. When I try to apply automatic it says "The parameter is incorrect".

I don't have a Power Management tab.

  • Go to Device Manager → Bluetooth adapter  Power Management tab.
  • Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

The Creative BT-W6 still doesn't detect any BT headphones. And the built in Wdws BT doesn't detect any headphones.

I have not reset network settings yet.

Hi @Blueshound24,

Thank you for the response
you can try these following steps as well

1. Fix the "Bluetooth User Support Service" Parameter Error

Since the user cannot set the "Bluetooth User Support Service" to Automatic, try this workaround:

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator (Win + X → Select Command Prompt (Admin)).
  • Run the following command:
    sc config "BluetoothUserService" start= auto
  • Restart the PC and check if the service is now set to Automatic.

2. Fix Missing Power Management Tab in Device Manager

Some Bluetooth adapters don’t show the Power Management tab in Device Manager. If it’s missing:

  • Open Device Manager → Find USB Controllers
  • Right-click Generic USB HubPropertiesPower Management
  • Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

Then restart and check if Bluetooth starts detecting devices.

3. Manually Reinstall Bluetooth Drivers

If both built-in and external Bluetooth adapters are failing, try this:

  1. Open Device ManagerBluetooth
  2. Right-click on each Bluetooth adapter (both internal & external) → Uninstall device
  3. Restart your laptop. Windows should reinstall the drivers automatically.
  4. If the issue persists, manually download the latest drivers:
    • For built-in Bluetooth → Go to HP’s support website, find your laptop model, and install the latest Bluetooth drivers.
    • For Creative BT-W6 → Download and install the latest driver from Creative’s website.

4. Reset Bluetooth Stack Using Command Prompt

If Bluetooth still won’t detect devices, reset the Bluetooth stack:

  • Open Command Prompt as Admin
  • Run these commands one by one:
    net stop bthserv
    net start bthserv
  • Restart your PC and try connecting headphones again.

5. Reset Network Settings (Last Resort)

If nothing works, reset network settings:

  • SettingsNetwork & InternetAdvanced network settings
  • Click Network reset → Restart the PC.

Final Check: Test with Another Device

  • Try connecting your Bluetooth headphones to another device (phone, another PC).
  • If they work on other devices but not on your HP laptop, the issue is likely with Windows or the Bluetooth adapter.

Let me know if any of these step's help! 😊

I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?"—your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster! 👍

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀
