Hello,

I've tried to plug a 3,5 mm earphone to my laptop's headphone jack, but nothing happens. Sound still comes out from my laptop's speaker. I've tried to reconnect, hear from my earphone, but still not working. I've also noticed the Sound panel in Control Panel that my headphone jack isn't plugged in. I'm currently using Windows 10 version 2004. What's the problem? Is this a driver issue, or my earphone/laptop don't support my earphone/laptop?

Thanks for the help.

I recommend you test the headphone jack with a different headphone and check. Sometimes the pin on the headphones will not connect inside the headphone jack correctly and it might cause an issue.

Let me know how it goes.

@MatthewI236 Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that the headphone is not working.

Check those headphones with an alternate device such as a Smartphone, laptop, etc...

If they work on the alternate device, check if the Headphones are enabled as a playback device.

To do this, please see the steps below:

  • Click the Start Pearl and then type Sound in the Start Search Box.

  • Select Change Sound Card Settings in the Start Menu Options.

  • Next, under the Playback Tab, right click and select Show Hidden Devices and Show Disconnected    Devices if available.

  • Select Headphones and enable

To Increase the volume on your headphone:

Method 1

  • Right-click the volume icon in the notification area.

  • Click Open Volume Mixer and increase the volume for Headphones.

Method 2

  • Right-click the volume icon in the notification area.

  • Go to Playback devices and right click Headphones under Playback.

  • Go to Properties and set the volume to the maximum under Levels tab.

  • Click Apply and OK.

I've enabled the headphone jack playback, but when I plug my earphone, it still shows "Not plugged in". I've tested my earphone in other device and it worked. Did my laptop missed an audio driver?

Follow the below steps and check if it helps.

Run Audio Troubleshooter

  - Launch Troubleshooting by typing and clicking “Troubleshooting” in Windows search.

  - Click on "Playing Audio".

  - Follow the on-screen instructions.

If you continue facing the issue, then uninstall the audio driver from the device manager and then download and install it from the below link.

https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers

Here is how it is done.

  1. Type "Device Manager" into the search field to open the device manager console.
  2. Expand the node that represents the type of device that you want to uninstall, right-click the device entry, and click Uninstall.
  3. On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK to start the uninstall process.
  4. When the uninstall process is complete, remove the device.

NOTE: On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click the Delete the driver software for this device option to delete the driver package that was used for the device.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Still not working, I'm sure my earphone is 100% perfectly working. Instead, the HP audio panel is now gone. Luckily I've created a system restore point to restore if I need to. Actually my earphone belongs from a phone. So is the earphone don't compatible with my laptop? Or it's another problem?

Looks like my laptop don't support 3 lines headphone jack, I've tested with another headphone with 2 lines headphone jack and it worked fine. Thanks for the help anyway.
