Hi @thegingersh1t,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your headphone jack isn't working despite trying multiple pairs of headphones and ensuring they are set as the audio output device, here are some troubleshooting steps to help you diagnose and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Check the Headphone Jack

  • Inspect the Jack: Look at the headphone jack for any debris or dirt that might be obstructing the connection. Use a can of compressed air or a small, soft brush to clean it gently.
  • Check for Physical Damage: Ensure the headphone jack is not physically damaged or loose.

2. Test with Different Headphones

  • Try Different Pairs: Since you’ve already tried multiple pairs of headphones, confirm that they work on other devices (like a smartphone or another computer) to rule out issues with the headphones themselves.

3. Check Audio Settings

Set as Default Playback Device:

  1. Right-click the sound icon in the system tray and select Open Sound settings or Playback devices.
  2. In the Playback tab, ensure your headphones are set as the default playback device. Right-click on your headphones and select Set as Default Device.

Check Audio Output:

  1. Go to Settings > System > Sound.
  2. Under Output, ensure your headphones are selected.

4. Update or Reinstall Audio Drivers

Update Drivers:

  1. Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
  3. Right-click your audio device and select Update driver. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

Reinstall Drivers:

  1. In Device Manager, right-click your audio device and select Uninstall device.
  2. Restart your computer. Windows should automatically reinstall the audio drivers.

5. Check Audio Enhancements

  • Disable Enhancements:
    1. Right-click the sound icon in the system tray and select Open Sound settings.
    2. Click on Device properties for your headphones.
    3. Go to the Enhancements tab and check the Disable all enhancements box.

6. Run Windows Troubleshooter

  • Use the Troubleshooter:
    1. Go to Settings > System > Sound.
    2. Scroll down and click Troubleshoot under Advanced sound options.
    3. Follow the prompts to let Windows diagnose and attempt to fix the issue.

7. Check for Windows Updates

  • Update Windows:
    1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
    2. Check for updates and install any available updates.

8. Verify Audio Jack Configuration in BIOS/UEFI

  • Check BIOS/UEFI Settings:
    1. Restart your computer and enter BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing F2, Delete, or Esc during startup).
    2. Look for audio settings and ensure the onboard audio is enabled.

9. Test in Safe Mode

  • Boot into Safe Mode:
    1. Restart your computer and press Shift while clicking Restart in the Start menu.
    2. Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
    3. Once in Safe Mode, check if the headphone jack works. If it does, the issue may be caused by a third-party software or driver.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
