HP Spectre x360 - 13-ap0010ca

The headphone jack was not working at all on my Spectre laptop. With headphones pluged in, sound would only come out of the PC speakers. I just reboot the computer with the headphone pluged in and it started working perfectly well. The system gave me choices over the output devices.

Hi @GeePeeBee,

Welcome to HP Support Community.  ,

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the headphone jack on your Spectre laptop is not working, here are some steps you can take to try and fix the issue.

  • Check your audio settings: Make sure your audio settings are configured to output sound to the headphones. To do this, right-click on the audio icon in the taskbar, select "Open Sound settings," and ensure that the headphones are selected as the output device.
  • Update audio drivers: Check if there are any updates available for your audio drivers. You can do this by going to the Device Manager, finding the audio drivers, and selecting "Update driver." Alternatively, you can go to the HP website and download the latest audio drivers for your laptop.
  • Test the headphones: Try plugging in a different set of headphones to see if the issue is with the headphones or the laptop's headphone jack.
  • Clean the headphone jack: Sometimes, debris can accumulate in the headphone jack, causing connectivity issues. Use a can of compressed air or a toothpick to gently clean out the jack.
  • Check the headphone jack: Finally, if none of the above steps work, it's possible that the headphone jack itself is faulty. You may need to contact HP customer support for further assistance or take the laptop to a repair shop.

I hope this helps you resolve the issue!

Take care and have a good day.
