hp envy 13 ag0000 x360 convertible
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,
since a couple of weeks with any kind of headphone I encounter this issue: if I stop playing audio or video for 10 sec, when I resume there is 2-5 seconds of silence before the audio actually start. No delay, you just can't hear the audio track while the video plays, and you have to go back to listen what you have lost.

I have a new hp envy 13 ag0000 x360 convertible, with no issue at all apart from this one.

I have tried some of the standard solutions:

Running audio troubleshooter (and checking that audio devices are properly recognized by the pc)

- Updating the audio drivers (and generally checked the windows updates)

- Performing a BIOS update (it sais that I cannot update it, without giving any reasons)

I see that many other people are having similar issues, so I hope this can be fixed somehow

@Tau_Mother Welcome to HP Community!

Use HP Support Assistant to automatically install computer updates to resolve the issue with the slight sound delay while using your headphones or otherwise,
here are a few steps on how you could go about doing the same:

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

  6. Perform any other update management actions as needed.

    • Postpone an update: Click Remind me, and then select a time preference.

    • Delete an available update: Click the Delete icon  to remove the update from the list and record it in the action log.

    • Review updates status: Click Action log below the list to view installed, postponed, or deleted updates.

Let me know how that pans out,

I check weekly for new updates and keep my device up to date. Unfortunately no recent updates have solved the issue (I checked today). If there is anything else that can be done to solve the problem please let me know

@Tau_Mother Perhaps, its an issue with the codec, I suggest you install the free version of VLC media player with all codecs during the installation and check if the issue occurs on it: click here to download.

This doesn't seem to fix it either. To make it worse this 5 seconds of muted sound happens on every player I have so far tried, and with any cable connected device I have. Since there are some other unsolved problems like this on the HP community, is it possible that HP hasn't yet addressed this issue with a proper update? Maybe it's not something that I didn't do, but something HP still needs to fix.

@Tau_Mother I suggest we run a hardware test on the audio card to identify the issue, and we can resolve the issue accordingly,

  • Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

  • Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

  • On the main menu, click Component Tests.

Selecting Component Tests from the main menu

  • The Component Tests menu displays. Your Component Tests menu might be different, depending on the components installed on your computer.

Sample List of the Component tests

  • Please initiate an Audio Test - The Audio Playback Test checks your system to make sure the audio device is functioning properly. During the test, a few music notes are played in sequence and then repeated. This test takes 1 minute to complete. To run the test, click Audio, and then click Run once. Choose either the speakers or the headphones. When asked, enter the number of notes you heard.

I have followed the steps, run a couple of tests and heard perfectly the sounds both on speakers and headphones. Still, the problem isn't gone, and I experience the 5 seconds of muted sound after I stop for some seconds a video or an audio file of any kind, with any headphones. Anything else that I can do to solve this issue?

HP Recommended

@Tau_Mother The tests merely tell us what's happening, did it pass or fail? Also, if it passed, I suggest you create an external backup of all your personal data and perform a system reset using the instructions mentioned here,

the test did pass, there should be no problems, but unfortunately the issue persists and I still experience this muted 5 seconds after I start playing any audio or video file. I tried the system reset but it still didn't work.
