Headset microphone does not work well in Envy 360

So here's the deal. The B&O microphone on the laptop works just fine. But when I plug a headset (earbuds) into the headset jack on the left, the microphone in the headset does register well. It's not completely dead, but the sound volume is very, very low. I've tried updating the audio driver by reinstalling it. I've tried adjusting the volume on the mic manually. No go. I reinstalled and updated Zoom. That also did not work.
The sound output to the audio jack is fine. I can hear well through the headset. It just doesn't seem to pick up the microphone as well as it should. So I don't think it's a hardware issue. This same problem occurs with the mic in different earbuds. I've tried three different sets and get the same result. One is a high quality model that works perfectly on my phone.
This also occurs with the voice recorder on the computer. It is not just a Zoom call issue.
Has anyone else had this issue? Do you know how it can be fixed?
