HP ENVY Laptop - 15-ep0036tx
Microsoft Windows 11

The onboard speaker sound is quite "soft" and have been since new. There does not seem to be any sound equalizer or boost functions and I already have the sound on maximum but at times still have to lean over the laptop to hear many audio files (facebook, youtube, prime, netflix and so on). If I plug in any headset or speakers to the audio jack, then I can hear just fine.

Is there anything that can be done to increase the output volume on the built-in speakers?

Hi @Nev62

Welcome to the HP Support Community. Thanks for bringing this to our notice.

I see that you are facing speaker-related issues on your system. Do not worry, we are here to fix it.

May I know from when are you facing this issue?

Did you make any hardware or software-related changes to it?

When laptop sound is low, below things that can help is following:

:heavy_check_mark:Right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select 'Playback Devices'.

:heavy_check_mark:Left click the default device once to highlight it ( it's usually 'speakers & headphones' ) then click the Properties button.

:heavy_check_mark:Click the Enhancements tab and put a tick in the box next to 'Loudness Equalization'.

:heavy_check_mark:Click Apply to save the change and then click OK in all remaining windows and see if this has helped at all.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

right clicking on the speaker icon in the taskbar only gives me "open volume mixer" and "sound settings". Neither of these give a Enhancements tab nor is there any link to a  'Loudness Equalization' option.

Check to see if your top speakers are functioning. Just bought this laptop and noticed the same issue. It seems to be stemming from the top speakers not working due to software drivers/BIOS issues. Will post solution when I find one that works for me.

After more research I found that actually the top grill is not for speakers and the muffled sound is due to the speakers being downward facing. Many reviews show that the sound quality on this particular laptop is fairly bad. This is a fairly significant design flaw that has me considering returning my laptop.
