I was using my laptop last night watching a live stream online I went to bed, woke up and packed my stuff up to leave campus, by the time I got home, around an hour or so, I start my laptop up and my audio is no longer working. when i clic on the sound icon at right siude of the task bar, it shows it isnt muted, and the green bar showing how much sound the audio should be keeps going up, but no sound. NOTHING is muted at all, i tried doing control panel trouble dhooting for playback devices and it didnt find anything wrong. I've looked at multiple posts about this. was there some OS update that caused my driver to be outdated? any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thank you, my laptop information is below. I'd also like to say that I have yet to have anything wrong with my laptop until this.
Product name: HP Pavilion m7 Notebook PC
Product number: B4T70UA#ABA

Hey I understand you're having an issue with sound. Great job trying some steps on your own. Sorry those didn't work.
Here are a couple of other steps to try. Try your sound after each of these steps.
1. A hard reset. Here's a link that shows the steps for a hard reset. Sometimes draining all the electricty out of the computer and giving it a fresh start will solve issues like this. It is an easy first step.
2. Check the default device listed in playback devices. Take a look at this link which shows you how to check/change your default device in playback devices. If you were using an external speaker device previously, the default device may have changed without you knowing.
3. Check your current audio and BIOS driver versions. This is the best way to find out if any recent updates were made.
- Go to Start, type "Device" in the Search Bar at the bottom.
- Click on Device Manager.
- Double-click on Sound, video and game controllers to expand it.
- Double-click on IDT HD Audio.
- In the Properties window, click the driver tab and make note of the driver version number that is installed on the notebok now.
- Check the latest driver version on your notebook's audio driver page. If the versions are the same, please let me know there are a few other steps we can try. If the version listed on the website is later, download and install it.
Hope these steps help! Please let me know the results. I will look for your reply.
I work for HP.

Hello e6ssggladu,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues with the sound, as well as the mute button on your computer. I would like to confirm the steps that you have taken for the refreshed your computer, rolled back, and rebooted. What steps did you take to perform these tasks?
Also, so that I am able to provide specific steps for your computer. I would like to know, the full model number of your computer. I have included the following document, 'Guide to finding your model number'.
Thank you.

Hi Lisa thank you for responding
The computer is a HP Pavilion 15.6 sleek book model 15-b142dx.
I was doing some online school work I pauses the lecture and walked away for a few minutes came back and just put the computer in sleep mode. The next day I went to the lecture and the computer had no volume. I pressed the mute button and seen on the screen the it was responding but noticed that the light on the mute button was not lighting up when muted and still no sound. Next I went to settings and seen nothing has changed. I ran diognistics nothing found, next I ran through test still nothing. I disabled all devices and ran find devices nothing opened up and chose show all disabled devises I reabled them tested still no sound. next I removed all devices restarted the computer and ran add hard ware it found the componets I removed ran test still nothing. I checked if any updates were down loaded nothing checked for drive updats on the computer and on line all drivers are up to date. so I ran restore and chose a date before this happened. Went through all tests and diagnostics still no sound. the last thig left and caused alot of agravation but I refreshed the computer to original factoriy setting still nothing I checked for dolby updates nothing.
So I am stuck I brought this computer so I could do this school work. I bought it as an open product and had a $45.00 discount back in September
I hope this can help you to figure out what is wrong
The computer head phones do not work either. when I play a sound It shows that there is something playing but nothing is coming out . If I can not get it fixed I will just have to scrape it and just write off the $304.00 I paid for it. oh one other thing I can not refresh it again because the windows office will not load and the product key is expired as of today oh yes I did everything that was mentioned in other posts

For one this HP is a piece of crud. I will never buy another hp again. Im on my 3rd hard drive and I have had it for less then a year. Now the sound doesnt work. Well didn't work until I pressed esc on start up and went to diagnosting my hardware. I went to audio and tested it. It worked so I then loged into windows and now my sound works. Also my key board keeps popping up and the curser keeps jumping around when I type. I'll never buy another touch screen especially hp again. I use to get nothing but hps but I think my next computer will be a Lenovo.
