Hi @DLFINNAN,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If Understand you're experiencing issues with your HP laptop not switching audio output to your earphones when they are plugged in, you may need to check and adjust some settings in Windows 11. Here's how you can troubleshoot and configure audio output:

Check the Audio Device Settings:

  • Right-click on the speaker icon in the system tray (bottom right corner of your screen).
  • Select "Open Sound settings."
  • Under the "Output" section, make sure your earphones are detected when plugged in. If they are detected, they should appear in the list of output devices.
  • If your earphones are not listed, try unplugging and plugging them back in while observing the list to see if they appear.

Configure Default Audio Output:

  • Once your earphones are detected, you can set them as the default output device by clicking on them in the list of output devices and selecting "Set default."

Check Headphone Jack Connection:

  • Ensure that your earphones are properly connected to the headphone jack. Sometimes a loose connection can cause the system not to recognize them.

Update Audio Drivers:

  • Outdated or corrupted audio drivers can also cause issues with audio output. You can update your audio drivers through the Device Manager.
  • Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager."
  • Expand the "Sound, video and game controllers" section.
  • Right-click on your audio device and select "Update driver."
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to update the driver.

Restart Audio Service:

  • Sometimes restarting the Windows Audio service can resolve audio issues. Press Win + R, type "services.msc," and press Enter.
  • In the Services window, scroll down to find "Windows Audio."
  • Right-click on it and select "Restart."

Use Troubleshooter:

  • Windows has built-in troubleshooters that can help identify and fix common problems, including audio issues.
  • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot.
  • Select "Other troubleshooters" and run the "Playing Audio" troubleshooter.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
