Since I purchased the Envy 3000, I have been unable to get the Microphone to work.

At maximum volume, no sound is recognized. All diagnostic test says the microphone is working.

I have tried different Microphones, all of which work on other computers, yet none work on this PC.. Audio does work.

What might the problem be?

Hi @01GARY,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Envy 3000 isn’t detecting any microphone input even though audio output works and diagnostics report no issues. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check the default recording device

Open Sound Settings → Input → choose your external or internal microphone.

Make sure “Use as default device” is selected.

Test the microphone level manually

Go to Control Panel → Sound → Recording → Microphone → Properties → Levels.

Ensure the level is at least 80–100 and the microphone isn’t muted.

Review privacy permissions

Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.

Turn on “Microphone access” and “Let desktop apps access your microphone.”

Disable audio enhancements

In Sound → Recording → Microphone → Properties → Enhancements.

Disable all enhancements, then test again.

Switch the input format

In Microphone Properties → Advanced tab.

Change the audio format to 44100 Hz or 48000 Hz and test.

Check for driver conflicts

Open Device Manager → Audio Inputs and Outputs.

Right-click the microphone driver → Uninstall device → restart the PC to reinstall.

Try using a 4-pole (TRRS) combo jack

This model uses a combined headset/mic port.

Ensure you’re using a headset/microphone that supports TRRS or an adapter made for TRRS.

Verify the microphone works in multiple apps

Test in Voice Recorder, Zoom, and Teams.

If none detect input, the OS isn’t receiving the signal from the port.

I hope this helps.
