HP ENVY x360 Convertible Laptop PC 15-ed1000 (169W3AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

using the speaker or wired head set volume is about half of what it should be for audio output. you are unable to listen to any audio if any other background sounds are occuring. I think it is a hardware issue as after 2.5 hours with HP Tech Support Chat trying everything nothing improved sound levels.

Hi @dnb80534,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you've already spent considerable time troubleshooting the issue with HP Tech Support and the problem persists, it's possible that there may be a hardware problem with your HP ENVY X360 Convertible Laptop. Here are a few additional steps you can take to further diagnose and potentially resolve the issue.

Check Audio Settings:

  • Ensure that the volume settings on your laptop are set to the maximum.
  • Check the audio settings in your operating system to make sure there are no restrictions or custom volume limits.

Update Audio Drivers:

  • Ensure that your audio drivers are up to date. You can visit the HP support website, enter your laptop's model number, and download the latest audio drivers for your specific laptop model.

Windows Troubleshooter:

  • Run the built-in audio troubleshooter in Windows. This can sometimes identify and automatically fix common audio issues.

BIOS/UEFI Update:

  • Check if there are any BIOS/UEFI updates available for your laptop on the HP support website. Sometimes, updating the system firmware can resolve hardware-related issues.

External Speakers/Headphones:

  • Test your laptop with external speakers or headphones. If the volume is still low, it may indeed indicate a hardware problem.

System Restore:

  • If the issue started recently, consider using System Restore to revert your system to a point before the problem occurred. This can undo recent changes that might be causing the audio issue.

Factory Reset:

  • If all else fails, you might consider performing a factory reset on your laptop. Be sure to back up your important data before doing so, as this will erase all the data on your laptop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
