I have an HP Envy x360, about 2 3/4 years old. I have tried everything, e.g., updating audio, using chrome but I cannot get rid of static when I watch movies or listen to youtube.

Hi @Ralph372,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Audio Driver Update:
- Device Manager: Right-click on the Windows Start button and select Device Manager.
- Expand Sound: Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
- Update Driver: Right-click on your audio device (e.g., Realtek High Definition Audio) and select Update driver.
- Search Automatically: Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
Reinstall Audio Drivers:
- Device Manager: Open Device Manager.
- Uninstall Driver: Right-click on your audio device and select Uninstall device. Check the box for Delete the driver software for this device if available.
- Restart: Restart your computer. Windows should automatically reinstall the audio drivers.
Check Audio Enhancements:
- Sound Settings: Right-click on the sound icon in the taskbar and select Sounds.
- Playback Devices: Go to the Playback tab, select your audio device, and click Properties.
- Disable Enhancements: Navigate to the Enhancements tab and check the box for Disable all enhancements.
Audio Settings Optimization:
- Sound Control Panel: Right-click the sound icon and select Open Sound settings.
- Advanced Properties: Under Related Settings, select Sound Control Panel. Go to the Playback tab, select your audio device, and click Properties.
- Advanced Options: Go to the Advanced tab and try different sample rates and bit depths. Experiment with 16 bit, 44100 Hz (CD Quality) or 24 bit, 48000 Hz (Studio Quality).
Bluetooth and External Devices:
- Disconnect: If you are using Bluetooth speakers or headphones, try disconnecting them and use the laptop’s built-in speakers.
- Testing: If using external speakers or headphones via the audio jack, ensure they are properly connected and test with different devices.
I hope this helps.
