I have a HP Pavilion dv8000 laptop with the Altec Lancing speakers (I add that detail because I do not know if that means it has a different audio device). I am running windows 7 64 bit. I have found drivers for everything but the audio device. Any idea where I might find the driver I need? It can even be for vista 64, I can make it work.

Hi:
Unfortunately, there is no 64 bit driver for that model audio chip.
Try modifying this 64 bit Vista driver as follows.
Download and install this free file utility. The 2nd file at the top of the page is for 64 bit.
Download and save, but do not run this audio driver file.
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp35501-36000/sp35558.exe
After you save the audio driver file, right click on it and select 7-Zip from the menu.
Have 7-Zip Extract to: and let it extract the file into its folder name (sp35558).
Once that is done open the driver file 7-Zip created and open the cp6308Ba setup information file
Change the first hardware ID you see listed to match the one you have as follows...
[Conexant.NTamd64]
Original: %*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_308B103C
Modified: %*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_309B103C
[ControlFlags]
Original: ExcludeFromSelect=PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_308B103C
Modified: ExcludeFromSelect=PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_309B103C
Close and save the file.
Then go to the device manager and click on the multimedia audio controller needing the driver.
Click on the driver tab. Click on Update driver.
Select the browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder 7-Zip created.
Make sure the Include subfolders box is checked and see if the driver installs.
If not, here is the 32 bit audio driver you can use after you install W7 32 bit.

Hi:
There are some older model notebooks that only have 32 bit audio driver support.
Please provide the following info, so I can see if I can be of help.
1. The product number of your dv8000. The product number can be found on the same sticker as the serial number.
2. The hardware ID for the device you see listed in the device manager as a multimedia audio controller.
To find the hardware ID, click on the Multimedia Audio Controller in the device manager.
Then click on the Details tab at the top of the Multimedia Audio Controller window.
Now you will see a property drop down list, and it will be set to Device Description.
Drop down on that list and select the 2nd item (Hardware ID's).
Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.

In a perfect worls t here would be a 64 bit windows driver, but if there is only a 32 bit driver available I would still be grateful for it. I can always wipe the machine and install 32 bit windows 7. Thanks.
