HP ENVY - 17-u177cl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I uninstalled my internal mic and speaker and now neither of them are working. It started off as a completely different problem. my mic was sounding all slowed down and low pitched so  I was told to reinstall my drivers. I opened device manager, "sound, Video and game controllers" and uninstalled something like "default constant tss" or something like that. i restarted my pc and now neither my mic or speaker are working. now i have a new problem! any ideas? thanks.

Hi @Lavamster307,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the uninstallation of the driver has caused both your mic and speakers to stop working. Don't worry, you should be able to get everything working again with a few steps.

Here’s what you can try to fix it.

Reinstall the Audio Driver:

  • Go to Device Manager.
  • Expand the section for Sound, video, and game controllers.
  • Right-click on any audio-related device and select Uninstall device (if it is still listed).
  • Restart your computer.
  • Windows should automatically reinstall the correct driver after a restart.

Use the "Update Driver" Option:

  • In Device Manager, right-click on your audio device under Sound, video, and game controllers.
  • Select Update Driver and choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
  • Let Windows search and install any available driver updates.

Check Your Playback and Recording Devices:

  • Right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and select Open Sound settings.
  • Under Output, check that the correct device (speakers) is selected.
  • Under Input, make sure your microphone is set to the correct device.

Check the Sound Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > System > Sound.
  • Scroll down and click Troubleshoot under Output or Input (depending on whether the issue is with your speakers or mic).

Reinstall Realtek Audio Drivers (if applicable):

  • If your laptop uses Realtek audio drivers, go to HP’s official support page, search for your model, and download the latest audio drivers.
  • Install them and restart your computer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
