Envy dv7-7212nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a perfectly good Envy Dv7 - 7212nr with two SS drives and 16GB memory.  It came with Windows 8 which was awful but ran perfectly well with all functions working with Windows 7.  I finally reverted back to Windows 8 and then did the upgrade to Windows10Pro as encouraged by both Microsoft and HP.

The drivers for the IDT audio that come with Windows do not work - muffled and distorted.  The latest ones provided by don't support Beats Audio (which was an up charge) and while they are not muffled - very distorted.  Makes my enhanced audio of the laptop sound like a cheap am radio.

And FYI... I have tried all the supposed fixes in the forums - and they don't work.

By the way... as an additional thought... another issue is that they don't even have a BIOS upgrade to allow you to run more than 16gb memory.  Strike 2.

@thx1326

1. For RAM: 16GB is the max, BIOS won't help.

2. For Audio: Please download and install

  or older (if could not fix).

I really appreciate the effort.  The second driver I had already tried - music sounded awful.  The first driver sounds just a touch better than the Windows 8.0 driver that is listed on the product support page.  But audio is still awful - very distorted - un-listenable through the laptop's speakers.  Have not tried it on headphones - but that is not important.  Even the "Windows System Sounds are distorted.

As an audio enthusiast... it is just not music anymore.

Thanks again.
